I couldn’t really be called a Happy Hacker as I am out competing every weekend, but while out hacking today (just me and Bodey cob), I just couldn’t stop thinking, this is what having horses is all about! Cantering though the woods, watching the autumn leaves dropping.
It was just so, lovely, so relaxing, such a pick me up on a Friday.
I could never give up my hacking, and would never understand why you wouldn’t want to hack. I suppose it does help that Bodey is so good to hack and he was really enjoying himself too.

Anyone else feel the same as me?
 
The hacking out where we used to keep our horses when I was young was brilliant, there were loads of gallops and jumps through the woods and it was brilliant, but the hacking out in our area now is rubbish, no suitable canter tracks at all, all roadwork as theres not bridle paths... well none that I know of anyway. I would love to be able to go canter through the woods instead of trying to balance my horse down what rocky tracks there are. :-(
 
Yes i love hacking, it is my passion and i just love just me and my horse, she is on the whole a complete star hacking. I do not really do or enjoy anything else tbh, hacking is my thing.
I would love to do some in hand showing in the future, I always enjoyed that in terms of competing as opposed to any other form of competing
 
I agree, I lost my hacking confidence 6mths after I got George and I was so sad as it is so theraputic, but we're back now and I just love it and it always makes me realise how lucky I am.

I went out hacking the other day, realised I had my camera in my pocket and couldn't stop taking photos! I love our hacking. Me, Ronnie and the countryside. Can't beat it!!

Although I am like you, can't really just be 'happy hacker' as I do enjoy going out competing too

Depends what the hacking is like where you are based; I love going on farm rides but not at all keen on trundling round the roads. Can go for weeks without hacking.
 
Rols got me back into hacking alone in a big way, I trust him completely, and I missed it so much whilst he's on box rest I bought another horse! She's a great competition horse but made sure she was bombproof too - compete at w/ends, hack 2-3 times during week. Am even gonna make sure I have some decent wet weather gear this year so no excuse; specially when I have the both of them to take out!

I know exactly what you mean, I adore hacking. I went out at 7am this morning and had a canter next to the railway line, we ended up racing the train with all these puzzled looking commuters staring out at us. Then riding back along the sea wall on the buckle, watching the sea. I'm never happier than when I'm out with my mare and I think she enjoys it as much as me.

I'm so lucky where I keep my horse - we have hills, open heath, forest, even beaches (if I was still capable of a four hour hack, which I'm not). Something for all seasons, though the roadwork in between the bridleways gets more dangerous each year. And now we've had a bit of rain and the ground has got springy again... Whay-hay! (Sound of madwoman laughing like a drain disappearing off into the distance).
 
i love hacking on a cold clear winters morning, down the beach, its lovely!

galloping along the beach and you can see the horses breathe!

love it, nothing beats that.
 
Yes nothing better on a day like today than hacking in the sunshine, skuffling through the autumn leaves and sharing blackberries with my pony!
 
I cant compete partly because I am SO rubbish, but also because of my HMS.

Hacking out on the New Forest is just such a tonic, everyday it looks different, and I see so much wildlife on horse back.

I LOVE it .... just me and my pony - heaven.
