Following on my post about hacking near Oasby, we have now given up on that house and are looking at one near Hickling Pastures. Anyone know if there is off road hacking around there. It is Quorn country

Go to Bing.com and look at the map for the area and switch to ordinance survey mode...you can the footpath and bridle ways in any area.

One thing is it's an a road and they are trying to put a lorry park at the A46 junction. Friend lives near and there is concern increased lorries and traffic on the roads.

Can you elaborate on the hacking please?

I have hunted that way and there is probably only one bridleway - the rest was over private land. I think it’s the A606 that runs through it so it does get very busy. I wouldn’t want to live around there if you plan on doing lots of hacking. Most of the yards round there are show jumping/eventing yards and I imagine they school a lot and box out to better hacking. I’m from Leicestershire originally so any areas you are interested in ask away but for better hacking you’re best going more Melton Mowbray/Oakham way or the villages surrounding Market Harborough.

Thanks, yes we live on the Oakham side of Melton and have fantastic hacking. It will be one of the things we will have to compromise on if we move

I used to keep my horse that way so I may well know you 😂 pm if you prefer. It is the best hacking and hunting country ever IMO - I’ve been disappointed everywhere since tbh as you just can’t beat it.

We only moved here during lockdown so are relatively new to the area but yes, we are really spoilt for hacking where we are. I’ve had pretty crappy hacking before so I can cope but it seems a lot to give up for a house of our dreams 😂
