Hey
I was wondering what is the best way to get a horse to hack (lead out) out on thier own?
I look after a 20 month colt and would like him walking out alone by the time he is 30 months. I just wondered how best to do it?
He will more than happily take the lead on a walk and sometime gets a fair way in front of the others, and doesn't seem to mind. He is generally fairly relaxed and if he does get concerned he will happily take reassurance from me.

I dont necessarily want him to do it yet as i accept he is young, but just wanted some advice for the future! So i can do it gradually.
Thanks

When I had a pony with separation anxiety, I took him for walks alone and then started to get on part way round, getting on closer and closer to the start of the ride until one day I got on at the yard! It certainly worked for him, but you could probably move things on a bit if your youngster isn't anxious?

He isn't generally anxious when out, but can be hard to seperate from the herd.
Just plants his feet and says "i'd rather not" lol

I dont wanna force him as he is young and really enjoys being out with frined i dont wanna scare him!

I start walking my youngsters out from the minute they are weaned at 6 months.
i make sure i have complete control, in the yard first by getting a car and a tractor to drive past at a distance and get closer each time they go past. So that when they go out on the road cars are very familiar
