..or does anyone else find it a completely boring!!?? Has to be done to keep them fit but I don't find it overly fun.

If i didn't compete or hunt I don't think I'd bother having a horse! I know some people love hacking though so I was just wondering what you guys think??

I'm not a big fan of hacking, but it also depends on what route I take! Sometimes I go around the forestry which is lovely and very enjoyable, whilst popping over a few logs and ditches

But when I go my regular route on the roads there isn't really much to do, I hack out on my own as well, it's much better to have someone with you to chat to!

I love hacking, i tend to find lunging and schooling a little dull

We have some very lovely rides, through fields and woods....

even though Bert is being a bit bolty at the moments there is nothing nicer IMO than galloping across open land.

I think it depends on the area you hack in! Where I used to keep my horses it was rather boring - round the roads and for a treat we had a bridleway across the golf course

. Where we are now is totally different - we have lots of off road hacking in beautiful secluded countryside and it is just a joy to hack out.

I do think age has a part to play too! When I was younger I was very competitive and wanted to be schooling and jumping in order to go out competing. But my competitive urge seems to be diminishing year by year and I'm just happy to take my horse out and enjoy the scenery

i never used to like hacking in England, but i really enjoy it over here...i can get lost for hours when i'm on my own!!!

It just gives me a sense of freedom, that i can do whatever i want, whenever i want!!! I love galloping through the woods finding new things to keep mysself and the horse occupied out on our hacks....it's always an adventure, and i love adventuring......i'm sooo nosey!!

We have really good rides around us, but our huntsman has the livery yard just down the road so we can go on all his fields (and XC couse!) - So my rides tend to be a quick gallop around everywhere and then back home!

I think I'm just lazy!

Lol, imagine having to walk the whole hack! My kids hack out on LR, so I am forced to walk miles upon miles. We are very lucky in that we have loads of off road hacking and beautiful countryside. And we do do 'schooling' on hacks which brightens things up a bit.

I do have use of a friends place nearby where they have a few xc fences set up, some great jumps set up around there, wouldn't consider it as hacking though, more of a xc schooling area

I dont mind hacking, I have days when Its utterly boring, just as I would rather be out competing etc, but its nice round us, but it can get boring time and again, That is why I am glad we go to shows and planning to go somerford park and do some hunter trials to liven things up a bit.

I dont like schooling at all, I like lessons but on my own I hate it,love jumping in the school though, I dont have a very good attention span so get cross easy if I am not doing anything interesting. x

I hack to hunt,

I hack because I have to but now, horse is having a month off and yippee! No more hacking!
When she comes back up I'll be schooling for her 'Summer Job'.
If she wasn't a youngster she'd be roughed off when hunting finished and be brought back up in August!

I don't find it fun unless I am hacking with someone else - Chloe doesn't get silly when we are in company. Much prefer schooling/xc/sj. I have to hack quite a bit to keep Chloe sane though.

I really enjoy hacking out, I love looking at the wildlife eg today I saw some deer and buzzards. I usually go out with a friend and enjoy the chat too, we vary our rides - sometimes its in the country and other days more urban where we discuss people's gardens etc.

I love hacking, and find schooling boring..... Merlin agrees, hacking is more fun for him too!!

I have miles upon miles of countryside to hack round... all different routes and scenery... great wildlife too.

But I do prefer company for a chat (if I want a faster ride I go by myself).

If I go around the same fields I get a bit bored, but if I go further afield and explore then I love it! Plus he's better behaved in a place he doesn't know very well

Personally love every aspect of horse riding/care (well.. poo picking is a pet hate

)

Love hacking, normally by myself and natter away to horse im riding... just find it so perfect and peaceful.

Must say, even if i couldnt ride id have horses!

love hacking - look at the country I get to ride in. My friend and I go for day rides stopping at the pub for lunch and when we can manage it trail rides stopping overnight at a B&B and riding home the next day. Lots of fun, lots of gallops, lots of pub lunches, what more could a person want. I could understand getting bored with hacking on the road though. We also enjoy SJ and XC but never get bored hacking around the black mountains.

I really think it depends on the routes and variety you have. Hacking is pretty poor where I am, two routes only or you have to back track, all roads. They are country lanes so I suppose thats not too bad but generally I hack because I have to.

I'm surprised with how many people dont like hacking. I love it

but then we do have very nice routes round our way. I guess it can depend on how "enjoyable" your horse it to hack as well.

No - it is really boring.....

But we keep our horses in the middle of Bath so there isn't really anywhere to go - 1 bridleway across the golf course. So end up riding around the roads, Royal crescent etc.

Before we moved to Bath we had really nice hacking and I enjoyed it more. If I didn't compete I would keep the horse somewhere else with better riding.

If you find it boring come and visit me! We have unlimited off road riding on the New Forest. Complete with Semi-ferral Cows, Donkies, Ponies, bogs, forest, rivers(to jump in and out of!), logs, open greens, sandy tracks. I could go on but here are a couple of pics!

I love hacking and going for miles. I ride alone or with my friend and cant say I have ever got fed up with it. I can see your point, it is nice to have something to aim for and achieve if you are competitive minded.
