hacking out - is it just me..

I loathe hacking - its a chore despite the fact I have tonnes of fields, bridleways, hills, beach and woodland to ride through. I could never just have a horse to hack - I would just rather not ride.

I have to hack. I couldn't have a horse if I didn't. Only if I kept them in livery.
I keep my horses at home in a rented field/barn. I can school in my field but I don't when it is wet as it wrecks the field and they have to eat/stay in it. So for the winter months I can only hack and occasionally tralier over to work to use their school.
I don't find it boring but do like to vary where I go as I think the horses get bored. I am lucking in the local farmers let my ride round their fields so I can get over road and have some fun. But I have to go on the roads to get there.
I do compete, showing and fun jumping/hunter trials. But I can show at county level just by schooling max twice a week in the drier months and lots of hacking. So I don't think its that bad.

For me riding is about relaxation. I have enough to think about in my day to day life. I don't want to have to rush around, or meet standards when I'm riding! I want to unwind. So hacking is perfect.

i love hacking nothing like a good canter down the park! pop a few logs or we have an old railway (not been used for years and years now tarmacked over ) that you can be out for literally hours. when i do roadwork which is a fair but i tend to do bits of schooling as i go. makes it a bit more fun and challanging

I love hacking, we are really lucky that our hacking is fantastic. Lots of bridlepaths (private/have to pay for them) and country roads to donder along. When I have had a bad day at work nothing better than going for a wander, just the 2 of us and totally chilling out. I like hacking with my friend too, we manage to never stop talking too!

I enjoy hacking but did used to get really bored, where I was, despite having the mountains which were fantastic (but not always safe) the lanes were BORING, no decent loops, when I lived on the edge of Dartmoor I could ride a different route every day for a week, much more interesting. So I can understand that if you don't have a variety of routes then it gets very boring.

I love hacking out - this is where I do the vast majority of my schooling. We have beautiful riding where I live so it is a pleasure to teach my young horses movements in such wonderful surroundings....and I find they are more than happy to learn under these conditions.

I'm with Metalmare on this one, I love pootling out for a hack and a gossip with my mates. Riding for me is for fun and relaxation.

I couldn't survive without hacking - in fact its all I do (for endurance training). It always surprises me when people either say they never hack or don't enjoy it. How can you not enjoy being out in beautiful countryside with beloved horse and being so close to nature?

i love hacking up the woods around mossburn, that's all i do really but i agree, the roads are very boring. you can't canter and there's not much to see and it's much more interesting to go up into the woods!

It's easy to say I don't like hacking as I have no beautiful countryside, no nature to be close to and as I found out today when I took my horse for a hack in company for the first time one that can't stop jogging the whole way

I dont like hacking either but then thats probably because I ended up having the odd incident so I dont hack anymore!!

Used to like it when I had ponies that where good to hack but as soon as I moved onto stroppy horses then the enjoyment soon went....! I quite like the odd hack / pleasure ride with a friend. I also couldnt make do with owning my horses just for pleasure (ie. hacking / schooling), I have to have compete and have aims to work towards etc.!
