We've had a helicoper land in the field right next to us when out hacking (Pebbles was new to the yard then and Kelly was younger) and not one of them bothered BUT...
we've recently learnt that the work being done on the pipelines by the large cranes and diggers - 7 FIELDS AWAY - is horrifically scary and therefore, Kelly thinks she simply MUST warn us when we put her in the field (she can see them from here). Some days she looks and walks off, others she stands at the gate drawn up to her full height tail in the air, snorting, the lot whilst we try and drag her into the field then she'll bomb off away to the safety of her lot!
Open car boots are another big no-no.

And whilst we're on this topic has anybody come across this mystery monster which resides in plastic bags or squashed boxes...??
I've never seen it myself, but the way Kelly creates sometimes there must be something there!:rolleyes:

I used to ride a fell mare who objected very strongly to wheelie bins. Locked on from a mile away and bowed her way past them. Snorting very loudly to tell me it was there! Walked past one day and the binmen had left the lid up and it totally blew her mind! She tap danced past then tucked her tail in and scooted along! Just in case something popped out and bit her bum! Strangely enough totally bombproof with the bin lorry!

there's a patch of purple flowers that comes out on the side of the road near us and Ron hates them! no idea why! But anything else isn't a problem, the biggest wagons, trains, tractors, anything except purpler flowers!

Bondi is quite sweet though as his spooks generally consist of "erm...HH, there is something funny looking between the trees, so I'm going to walk past it really slowly just to check that its OK, and if it is I'll carry on as normal. If its not, I'll just stop and look"

Funny horse...A true gent! Hea has never ever spooked despite the fact that he was imported from Holland and was only in the UK for a month before we got him and had never hacked before!!

My cob is totally unphased by big tractors, motor bikes and skip lorries - but he's terrified by big bags of building sand! If he sees one then it immediately sparks a huge hissy fit!

Drains. Sketch will poo for Britain when he sees one. Its always the same reaction too. He'll stop dead, put his head down and snot like a dragon. He'll reverse and try to run home if you aren't firm and your leg isn't on. If there is water going into it, he'll either dart to the side or try and jump it . He loves puddles and water jumps though so idk why is scared lol.

He is fine with most other things. He'll occasionally spook at the normal things like plastic bags or things that aren't normally there or are a bit different.

mine is scared of the grates you get at the side of the road. spots them from miles off and gives it as wide a birth as possible. luckily he is alot better with them now and only occasionaly shies from them but when we first got him nearly a year ago he was a nightmare to hack! now im totally happy hacking bareback on him as he is so much quieter.

Love xx

i was once out hacking my pony & there was a running race going on. at the start there was a lady lieing down doing stretches. my pony refused to go past her. although i could probably have bullied him past i did not want to risk him standing on the lady in his panic so i said "excuse me but could you stand up please as my pony thinks you're dead!). as soon as she stood up he walked past fine & the lady just said "what a caring pony!)

he also was scared of people making a "raspberry" noise. he would shake his head & shoot forwards. it was an excellent trick if i wanted a quick upwards transition & i got some comments about how responsive he was in WHP! shame i couldnt stop though... he also spooked if another horse farted although he was usually ok with his own except once, he was probably expecting it to be a silent one!

my first pony was scared of drains which if couldnt get round had to be jumped

This made me laugh!! Me and Kelly once did half the Boothstown Wobble (a fun run near our farm) we kept meeting the runners, and got a police officer escorting us half the way! ;) we did try and get a different route but met them running the opposite way and decided going WITH them was safer!
Got to admit, even though plastic bags and parked sports cars are horrifically deadly, many people running and children screeching with police cars everywhere, she was as good as gold! :D

Mine could be happily ridden by himself through Central London without batting an eyelid at anything. But a Snowman wearing a bowler hat caused him to freeze on the spot and shiver with fear.

I have quite a few issues with my horse, but he is generally excellent to hack, apart from if we meet groups of children. He hates children. I don't know if it's the way they skip along the pavement or the way they wave and talk loudly, but he usually starts bronking and rearing at the site of them. I now avoid hacking out during the school run times because of this.

The only other thing he's a little bit funny with is shiney black cars. I think it's because he can see his reflection quite clearly in some of them and it makes him jump. LOL! the fool :D
