hacking question

it depends what your horse is like, unlikely if she she listens and responds to you however, if you have a horse that tends to ignore your aids, probably

Forward going doesn't mean silly, its a good thing. So if your horse is forwards too, it will be a nice match to hack with. If your horse isn't forwards thinking, & is miles behind the leg, a forwards companion should have a positive effect & get yours thinking forwards more.
However if its just a bit silly, wanting to tank everywhere, it could encourage yours to do so. Saying that, I've met a few plods who could be bombed past all day without even speeding up their walk.

I have a layed back cob and out hacking he just ambles along ignoring the antics of some I've ridden out with. But when I go a farm ride with the same horses he turns into a speed freak.

I have a forward going horse who can be silly on the way home and he has never encouraged another horse to be the same as him if it is not naturally in the other horse.

Ok thanks for your replies. My horse has always been, shall we say, very easily lead by other horses. He is very good out hacking and never strong but the other day I went out with someone and had a lovely time but we did a lot of very fast cantering. Today, when I went out, he was very strong in canter and very forward going. I love hacking out with this other lady, but I am concerned my horse will become too strong.

Thats exactly what happened toe but on a farm ride, he was very strong and fast as he didn't want to be left behind. He stopped when my friends horse did so just went with him.

I get what you mean now. Yes, if you hack regularly with someone who canters everywhere it can have that effect.
