Hacking/trail/beach riding in County Durham

Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that does good hacks or trail riding within easy reach of Durham city? I'm hoping to organise a couple of hacks and beach rides for Durham University Equestrian Club for the end of term...
Also anyone got any other ideas of events we could do? I've got: beach rides, hacking, mini competitions, possibly western riding if there's anywhere local, drag hunting...any other ideas?

On your own horses or do you need horses?

Alison Johnson now does Western Riding and she is in Co Durham
