when looking for a yard, is hacking important or do people not really want to go on the roads these days? would you sacrifice hacking if you had a decent school/ jumping field that you could use. Sorry lots of questions
I think it depends very much on the person and what they & their horse enjoy doing. If I was looking for livery, I personally wouldn't consider anywhere without hacking as although I do a lot of schooling & jumping, I enjoy hacking a few times a week, and me and horse would probably go insane without it! However I do know people who don't enjoy hacking and don't feel safe out on the roads, so a yard with good facilities but perhaps lacking in outriding would be much better suited to them. x
Sounds fab! We do not have any schooling facilities so rely on hacking out so I have to say that if I was to move I'd like a school...however it's the hacking/chatting which keeps you sane!
I want hacking and good schooling facilities as I hack out at the weekend but school in the evenings during the week as I can't get down to the yard until about 7pm on a weekday owing to work.
Wow nieghham how lucky are you! There are places that aren't too far to box to Shipley park carsington water are just two. But hacking on the roads is not brilliant and there aren't any bridle paths nearby. So many footpaths 😒I wish there were more🐴
I would definitely want somewhere to hack! Me and my mare hate being in the school too much, we don't mind roads at all though, if anything she is much better behaved on the roads than anywhere else!!
I would want hacking, it doesn't have to be off road though as long as the roads are reasonably quiet. I don't have many places to get off road where I am now but we have lots of quiet lanes to ride round so I can happily hack on several different routes. I want to be able to escape the school every now and then, if the roads aren't safe at a yard I'd probably want to have access to some on site farm ride or tracks or something, boxing out for a hack is no substitute really as it is such a hassle, it is ok for a change every now and then but not for regular fittening work.
My girl is an ex comp horse who never left a yard and now loves her hacking. So no, I wouldn't even consider it......oh, and of course it's what I love the best too.
