Hackney ponies

They seem to be more popular in the USA than here.
Netherlands seem to be another country with Hackneys being quite popular, theres quite a few gradings vids on Youtube.

I cant understand why Hackneys have declined so much as to be so endangered, perhaps its because people see them as purely a driving horse or pony.

I can only speak for Hackney horses when I say they are very intelligent, quirky, tough and loyal - and have a good jump in them for a 'driving' breed.

My lovely Hackney mare is long gone, but I worked with them for many years and for me no breed comes close.

A friend had a pony mare, and wanted to find out more info on the breed, he doesnt "do" computers so i thought i would ask on here!
 
I had a hackney cross - she was a as sharp as you like but a super super pony, she had a lovely flashy action :)
 
My dad came home with a hackney mare once. She was in her teens, untouched and purely a brood mare. Chucked her in the field with our welsh cob stallion and had a few foals off her which were good types- flashy little cobs essentially. Only way to get near her was to corral her then grab the bit of twine on her headcollar. Once you had her she was good as gold (I vividly remember holding her in the middle of a field when I was 8/9 tops, while dad trimmed her feet) but didnt need or like people.

She died of a heart attack one night in the field for no apparent reason, leaving her 6 week old colt foal. We hand reared him but sold him because he was too small for us in the end.

I know someone who drives a pair of hackney horses. Its a pleasure to see them :)
 
My boy is hackney cross, completely agree with Hackneylass2 he is really intelligent, super sharp, gorgeous movement, very quirky and has unending stamina!
 
I have a hackney pony she was driven by my uncle v successfully when she was younger then I had her and she is the best pony ever always looked after me but was super intelligent in a good and bad way and super sharp great jumping and amazing movement would def have another shame they arnt more popular as really are great horses
