Today my daughter was riding in the riding club team sj at Blenheim. Her friend was first in and at fence 4 he landed seemed to trip/give way, it was a double and he jumped out and landed on 3 legs. It was obvious that the tendon had gone. The horse ambulance arrived and he was taken away. They gave him strong painkillers and fixed a block under his heel , then splinted the leg, he was transported home and is to be assessed on Monday. He is 20 but is a real jumper and has been a great friend to her.The others did go round the first round but really didn't want to and made a mess of it[ really shouldn't have jumped as they were so upset]
We have been having a great run of luck and it had to end at some time

Fingers crossed for your friends horse. xx

What a sad accident.
Do tell your friend though that the endurance arab retired here had the most appalling injury to his tendon, when he arrived his leg was grossly swollen after ops and treatments galore.
He was turned away to see how he coped and now several years later is 100% sound with a small lump where the injury was.
It may take a year which isn't good in an old horse but at least he may have a chance of recovery despite how bad that sounds..

Oh no!

That's so hard, poor kids, we adults take it badly but the kids can be inconsolable.

A bit different but the kids we took to Badminton this year were at the fence when Bambi De Briere had that awful accident, we were a fence further on than them, they called us on the phone in floods of tears, when they caught us up, we had some some major consoling to do

I really hope something can be done for your friends pony.

wizoz, it was Riding Club, so adults and horses - he is a beautiful upstanding horse with a real aura - the owner must be applauded for her composure after the incident, the horse was so sore and went straight into the trailer for her

pity i did not know you were there, i could have come and given you group hug, hope horse better soon, chin up we are all sending hugs to you x

Thats awful, I hope everyone concerned is as ok as they can be, fingers crossed he'll make a good recovery.
I was there yest as well and heard the commentator say that there had been an accident earlier but had no idea it was so serious, very sad news.

I knew you would all be kind and sympathetic on here.He is just one of those horses that you could rely on year in year out. He has taken her through pony club and riding club and the worst he has ever got in open sj teams is 4 faults. He is just one in a million the horse we would all love to own.
We are off to Lincoln without him today and our hearts are so low and now with a team of 3 [reserve can't make it at this short notice]We are going to try to make up for him but we know in our hearts we can't.I'll let you know the outcome when I get back and when I hear the decision on him.
We really would rather stay at home but that will only leave 2 in team and they weren't there with us yesterday[ 2 intermediates jumped in the team yesterday] Can't really let them down and so we will try to keep positive

Sympathy from me and mine to your friend C. One of Rosie's Grandad's much loved pointers damaged his tendon at the end of last season and while he won't race again he's fine for pottering around the fields with someone gentle on board. Fingers crossed :-)
