and now i'm very bruised and feeling a bit sorry for myself.

Was schooling Jack and something in the hedge spooked him (i've no idea what) and he darted to the side, I fell forward towards his shoulder, he threw in a buck for good measure, and i ended up face down on the floor. I've had a lot of falls in my time, but I don't think my face has ever been planted quite as well as it was today.

Jack swiftly came back to see what on earth i was doing on the floor, had a sniff and a snort at me, much to the amusement of one of the liveries on my yard.

I'm very nearly 40 now, and every time i fall off it hurts a little bit more than the previous time! Sob. :'(

Oh dear, I sympathise!

I'm nearly 50 & agree, it certainly hurts more than it used to. Last time it took a couple of weeks to recover from the bruising.

That's a carbon copy of the fall I had a few weeks ago, except that Murphy didn't hang around to check if I was OK but buggered off to find some grass whilst he had the chance!!

Hope you're OK...

you have my sympathies. I was propelled through the ears a week ago, 4 hours in A & E and 3 xrays later confirmed that nothing is broken but that I am not bouncing any more either. I am still sporting a wonderful scoured shoulder from that meeting the sand school and increadably painful shoulders/back/neck.

Glad your not hurt bad, my body protector and hat has saved me from a few nasty bangs, landed heavy on my side and bumped my head coming off jumping at a show couple of years ago, BP saved my ribs and my hat saved side of my head, I'm 57 and self employed, so try to protect myself best I can.

Ouchies! Hot baths, Arnica, and Ibuprofen gel if needed..... hope you feel better soon!

And yup, another one here seeing the big 5 - 0 approaching way too fast... and similar fall a few weeks ago. Also a major sideways spook (mine caused by horse brushing the school fence, then anticipating an electric shock, as all the other fences are electric!!) but I came straight off and landed heavily on my side. I was wearing a hat and a BP (well mare is only 4 and pretty new!)
She was also rather curious as to why mum was lying on the floor and came over to snuffle in my ear...

I was with my instructor, who helped me back up, and back on.... but I suffered for it for a good few days after.

But on the plus side, bizzarely, I have felt more confident riding her since then, now I've fallen off, I don't seem so scared about it!!
