so glad he is better now they can be a worry and although having them at home is lovely when they are poorly you eat sleep and breath them I know I have been there it can be stressful, it sounds like you are doing a grand job and I am sure come spring he will look like a different horse the good spring grass does amazing work, if you have pictures of when you first got him it's lovely to look back and when his looking well you can say I did that.
