Just come back out of hospital.

I don't really know what happened, my gelding who is usually a lovely calm horse got his knickers in a twist.

My mother, who isn't a very confident rider from a fall a few months ago decided to walk my gelding off after some exercise.
So I dismounted and held him for her to get on. But last minute nerves got the best of her so she decided not to get on him.

So I jumped back on him but as I was swinging myself onto the other side of the saddle all I remember was him tanking off, then I ended up on his quarters whilst he was broncing and he ended up throwing me into the fence then onto solid mud ground, giving me a kick on the way down.

I landed on my head then thumped onto my back. I don't think I've felt a worse few seconds of pain than that.
Somehow I dragged myself up in autopilot, calmed him down and re-mounted him (and he stood perfectly still) whilst I walked him off.

I had to be taken to hospital a few hours later because the pain in my back was getting worse and worse. I've had X-Rays and nothing serious is there the Docs said it was just from the impact of the ground. I have slight concussion and whiplash but apart from that I'm fine. Reassuringly my confidence doesn't feel knocked one bit. Which is a plus.

I'm just so glad it was me that got hurt and not my mother, It would of absolutely destroyed her confidence around horses for a long time. Plus she doesn't bounce as well since she's 50
I can't imagine how awful I would of felt if it was her.

Well done for making it to the end of this essay.
Still in quite a bit of pain but the docs just prescribed Ibuprofen and rest.

I hope you are feeling better soon. I know your pain. Big hugs xxx

It makes you realise, doesn't it, no matter how good our horses appear to be they can be a powerhouse of strength and can maim and kill at any time.

Best to be on our guard always and think the unthinkable may happen if we get complacent.

Glad you're ok, that sounds like it could have resulted in quite a nasty injury! Hope it was just a funny five minutes with your boy and you don't get a repeat performance.

Thank goodness you're ok and didn't sustain any serious damage. Might be worth taking some arnica in addition to the ibuprofen and using some arnica gel to bring out the bruising.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Big hug X

Thank you dear, falling is an absolute pain! I usually land on my feet or bum. But not this time apparently :D

They can be so unpredictable, I personally find it amazing how good they are to us but how they can suddenly flip and you see a different side of them. Makes me think really.

Ouch!

So glad you're, comparatively, alright.

Hugs hunny.

Thank you for all the get well wishes guys :)
Hoping I make a speedy recovery so I can get back up on him and carry on working with him. I assume it was just a very mad five minutes.

and I have some cream that is meant to relieve stiffness and muscle pain, absolutely smothered my back and neck in it. Gives me some relief but it's just a very dull ache I have.
Also have arms covered in cuts and bruises. I bruise like a peach

What a horrible shock for you, very glad you are OK...horses are so unpredictable sometimes, you were very brave to get straight back on. Hope you're not too sore tomorrow.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I've lost count of how many times I came off breaking Shy (but it was bareback). The worst one I had, he just moved to the side quite quietly in walk, and that was in - off, landed on my head, and unconscious. Hubs didn't realise how bad it was, put me back on, I was away with the fairies, so he got me to hospital - concussion.

I hope you feel better soon...every time you fall off it makes you a better rider ;)

I had to get straight back on him, as funny as it sounds if I didn't I would've felt defeated and I also wanted to make sure he didn't do it again. I probably will be sore tomorrow but hopefully not too much :)

I think the worst fall was when I was hacking my 12.2 and we was to tuck into the side of the road for a van, he shot out, reared up and I landed on the van bonnet unconscious.
I must be a very good rider then :p
