We were half way through Sunday dinner Yesterday Afternoon when the doorbell went it was our nextdoor neighber. He asked if we still had our Jack Russel as one had been found wondering in the middle of the duel carrageway . God did I panic I ran up two flights of stairs to see if the little fella had got out of our flat on the top floor (although I knew there was no way he could get out) All sorts of things started running through my head, had he climed out the window, had someone let him out. I opened the door and called him, He appeared from the bedroom. Thankgod he was still there. :D
I grabbed the little fellas box and a handfull of treats and went down to the road to see if I could help. When I got down there there was a car parked in the layby. A woman had managed to get the dog into her car but now they couldn't get hold of it. The poor little thing was so scared she had bitten 3 people who had tried to help her. :( No one was having and luck so I got in the car and sat on the passenger seat. The dog was in the drivers foot well growling at me. I offered her some treats but she wasn't intrested. (A terrior refusing food  She must have been scared) So I just sat next to her talking to her for ages. Then she jumped up onto the drivers seat and lay looking at me. She still growled if I tried to touch her so I just continued talking to her.
In the mean time the others watching had called the RSPCA and the council but neither of these people wanted to know they just said to call the other.
Eventualy I managed to slip a rope round her neck and we got her out the car. Her claws were very long (they curled under and made it hard for her to walk :( ) She also had a very nasty sore on her tail (probably a flea allergy as she had a flea coller on). She didn't have a proper coller on or a tag :(.
SO we put her in our car and took her to the vets. By now she was being very sweet, she didn't seem so scared and she sat happily in the car watching the world go by. When we arrived at the vets she was scanned for a chip but there wasn't one.
I realy hope they manage to find her owner although because of where she was found I think she was probably dumped in the layby. :( I'm a little worried what is going to happen to her if she isn't claimed. My OH has already said we can't have another dog :( He knows me to well and read my mind :(

You did very well indeed. Poor little thing, wonder if she was dumped on purpose.

Would it be possible to take a photo of her and a brief description and put her on the website 'Doglost' (I only say that one as it appears to be the one most people use).

You never know, she may just be somebody's pet who has gone off on an adventure and they are desparate for her back.

Other than that, what will you call her?:D:D

Thanks :o I also wonder if she was dumped. In some ways she doesn't look cared for (her claws, No coller or tag and the sore on her tail) But in other ways she does (she had a flea coller on and she was well fed). We had to leave her at the vets, they've started her on antibiotics for the flea allergy. OH said we deff can't keep her :( and sadly I didn't think to get pics of her. The vet said they would ring round other vets to see if anyone has reported a missing dog and they will also ring the dog warden. We left our phone number so hopefuly they'll let us know what happens.
I'll have a look on the Doglost website and see if she's on there.

I found a dog whilst riding along a bridlepath last summer. He wouldn't leave the hedge and although a little skinny had a really shiny coat and seemed quite friendly. Anyway after getting back to the yard and finishing the horses i went back to the track with the car to see if he was still there. He was and after struggling to get him in the car I asked around to see if anyone recognised him. I decided to take him to my local vets to see if he was microchipped, but he wasn't and they said they would check him over and ring the local dog rescue centre on the Monday. By this time my OH and myself had decided that if no one else claimed him we'd have him. Luckily for us nobody claimed him even though quite a few people wanted him at the home so we were able to bring him home. At first he was the quietist and most scared (he'd never seen a telly before!!!) dog I'd ever seen, but over the months he has become a confident, loving, playful pooch who our other dog adores (she can be really funny) and everyone seems to love. If you could give her a home it would be company for your other pooch so maybe try the OH again, but if not is it probably best if the vets don't ring you.
At least you rescued her and got her safe so I would leave it in the hands of the vets. However with my little pooch, we are sure it was fate and wouldn't be without him.

windseywoo what a lovely story your dog is so lucky you found him. It sounds like he's landed on his feet. :) I can see my OH's point about not keeping her. We live in a small flat on the top floor of a house and we already have 2 dogs. The little fella and Gem the OH's GSD so we've not got much room not to mention that we can't realy afford another animal. Also the little fella is still entire so a bitch could cause problems. But i'm shore if the only other option was she was PTS he would give in so I would rather keep in touch as she is a realy sweet dog I would like to know she was ok.

jules89 She had already suggested that ;)

Goya We are in the new forest. She looked like she could be old but it was hard to tell. I did wonder if she could see properly which might be why she was biting people. You can PM me if you want and i'll try to provide any info you need. She's at the vets and havn't heard from them yet :( I just hope she's ok.
