Had a bit of an accident last night
Did some lunging with my 3yo, he was fab, cantering on correct leg and listening
Went to take him in, and I was complacent I suppose *slaps wrist*
I was walking in front of him when he suddenly panicked. He spooked forward and stood on the back of my foot (grazed all the skin off :o ) I fell over because I couldnt move my foot. Was scary as I fully expected him to keep coming and trample on me, so I just curled up in a ball waiting for it.
Bless him, he stopped and looked really worried about what he'd done.

Im really relieved he didnt trample me but when I got up, I saw the stirrup leather on the floor and the scratches on the saddle, so he obviously got stuck. I was upset about the scratches which obviously cant be fixed :(
But then I went to put the stirrup leather back on and the metal bar it goes on has bent outwards a bit (Dont know how secure my stirrup will be sat on that) :( Can it be fixed? Ive only had his saddle a month or two

So sorry to hear what has happened to you, I do hope that you are a little better today. If it was me I would contact my saddler and get them to check it over just in case their is any other damage that you are not able to see. They really will be the best people to say when they can see the damage that has been done, and will be able to advise you of the best course of action to take .

As others have said, you'll need the tree checked as well, as you have to drop the panel out anyway to check it thoroughly you can put a new stirrup bar in if the tree is sound at the same time, rough guess on cost would be on this work:

Strip down
Check tree
Remove damaged stirrup bar
Replace with new bar including rivets
Lace panel back in
Check for soundness

£30-35 approx that includes £12 for new bar and rivets

As your local saddler, they can do this for you.

My saddle fitter is lovely, she needs to come out anyway as my mares saddle isnt fitting very well. Tried ringing her but with it being bank holiday I wont get a response till Tuesday.
I dont think there'll be an issue with the tree, the metal just bent enough to release the stirrup leather, but Ill get her to have a good look just in case.
Thanks for replies, are you a saddle fitter cremedemonthe?

Fuel is ridiculously expensive now, Im West Yorkshire in Leeds. But Im a long long way from you Lol

lol, yes you are, I have friends in Thirsk who not only have horses but used to own a saddlery shop down here (used to do their repairs and saddle fitting for them) was wondering if you were near them that's all but obviously you're not!
Hope you get it sorted, have the thumbs on the bars actually been damaged alot?
Any photos?
