Ok, going back to my last posts.....some of you may well know my story? I bought my horse last October. She was diagnosed with a pre-existing eye condition. I had been treating her eye 3 times a day but the medication just wasnt working. The eye then needed to be removed so she went in last wednesday to have the op on thursday. The operation itself went fine with no complications but she didnt want to get up in recovery. She was given abit more time but come Friday we tried to hoist her up but her hind legs just didnt want to work. Yesterday we tried again and managed to get her up with the support of a sling for 30 mins. We took the sling away but she went down shortly after. We tried again this morning but after much time and effort the vets said her legs just wouldnt take her weight and that she wasnt making any effort herself. I had to make the most heartbreaking decison of my life to put her to sleep. I was with her right to the end stroking her nose and telling her that i love her and goodbye. it was the saddest thing ive ever had to do. After all this ive been left with nothing. Please just be careful who you buy your horses from and dont end up like i have. Ive spent every penny i had with nothing to show but memories, tears and a broken heart. Thank you to everyone that has sent good vibes.

How sad! I am so very sorry for you.

Thankfully I have never had to have a horse PTS and hopfully I never will have to because I know it would break my heart.

Reading what you say has bought tears to my eyes.....

My thoughts are with you.

So sorry for you,I once spent a lot of money on a horse from a dealer and it ended up with my daughter having a broken leg and the horse being pts a few months later because it turned out the horse had liver disease and was in pain.
I have followed your story and really didn't want it to end this way.
Luckily this horse found you and he knew he was loved.Poor thing ,poor you.HUGS

I've only just read your story above. I'm so sorry for you I had to have my horse put down nearly two years ago after 10 faithful years. I have been unable to find another horse which I think in my heart of hearts is because I don't want to replace him. I hardly even ride my husbands horse although I could ride every day if I wanted to but I've just lost interest in the riding. But I'm still in with everything that's going on. It's early days yet but the heartbreak does fade and you will remember the good times. I know you didn't have her long but you obviousley loved her.

I am so so sorry to hear this sad news. I thought you were so brave when you first posted about your horse having to have her eye removed but then when I read about her not being able to get up, I was really hoping it wouldn't come to this.
However, she obviously didn't want to go on and you have made the best decision for her. I'm so glad you were with her at the end - you will be able to take some comfort in that soon.
For now, allow yourself the tears, but she was lucky to have you for the short time you were together.
I hope the pain of losing her soon turns into happy memories.
Big hugs - my thoughts are with you - I know how painful it is.
May she rest in peace.

Oh how utterly tragic for you.

Words fail me, they really do, but I hope once you've cried your tears and grieved properly, that you take this further.
It won't bring your girl back to you, but it might just make people like him think long and hard about their responsibilities when selling horses as a business, and it might give you some peace of mind and some justice for you poor horse.

Huge hugs to you xxx

Oh i have taken it further, court papers have been issued last week but i didnt think that it would end up like this. i've got to now update the court to say that she is no longer with us.Im doing it for her aswell as for anyone else hes stitched up. Its been worse case senario the whole way through. Firstly with the eye prob to be told that it needed to be removed, then once its been removed she would have to be PTS. I had to walk away from there this morning with an empty head collar and rug!

I am so sorry to hear about your tragic loss - I had to have one pts a couple of weeks ago, and my beautiful young connie a couple of years ago, so I know how heartbreaking it must have been for you.
Hugs for you.

So sorry for your losses too. Ive got to go to an empty field 2moro to take up the fencing.......thats going to be hard. One funny memory that shall stay with me is that, nothing stopped her from eating. She didnt once go off her food and while she was laid flat she was still eating the hay from the floor. I even gave her a carrot as she was PTS. Such a shame but i guess, she just wasnt meant to go on.xxx

I'm so sorry but you did everything you could for her. I lost my mare very suddenly 15 months ago and know how you are feeling right now. It does get better with time but you will never forget her.

Oh no! That's awful

*hugs*

The only time I had a horse PTS it wasn't actually my decision (we had her on permanent loan...so technically, weren't the owner) That was hard enough.

You are a brave and considerate owner, there are many who wouldn't have made the decision you did, allowing the horse to suffer.

You say all you're left with is memories, tears and a broken heart...your heart will mend, though never be as good as new, your tears will dry but your memories of her will live with you forever...you did the best you could for a horse that never really stood a chance!! Don't focus on the difficulties or pain, just think of a good time you shared with her and focus on that!

*more hugs*

Do you have any photos of her? (only if you feel up to sharing them)
