Gah, got me all huffed up.
Went out last night so decided to blitz the hangover by having a lovely hack around the village and a canter up the field.
Coming back through the village they have some roadworks at the side of the road, lovely red and white with orange garish flashing lights on top. Coming through the bollards I thought it best if I moved into the middle of the road gradually so nobody could overtake me, I didn't want Oshk spooking and running into a car...
...So Mr arsehole Astra van slammed the horn on behind me (about 100yrds from me) obviously was in a hurry. Now too bad the little man caught me in a hungover tired mood, becasue I halted Oshk the cool-as-a-cucumber horse to turn sideways and give Mr arsehole Astra some serious middle finger and a bit of what I thought about him. Mr arsehole Astra was also rather bitter and started yelling something like "Who do you think you are standing in the road, horses are meant to walk on the pavement, do you know nothing?" to which I replied "no, I'm sure riding on pavements is ilegal, as is inappropriate use of horn, what would you have done if my horse had freaked out and injured me or somebody else?" I've got his number plate though, arnt some people pleasant.

Ooooh - dont you just hate it when that happens. In the process of backing and breaking a ponio at the moment - and would you believe it I fell out with two of the "yuppee towny" villagers in one week. Crikey our roads are reasonably quiet - but as in your situation the drivers were being moronic! One got a bit of fingers up action and the other got a polite but firm verbal statement!
It is annoying when this happens - dont know about you but I always feel guilty for a little while

I used to be so patient on roads and always held my cool but our roads are getting worse, down at Bec's yard I ride and lead, and people just DON'T care what they do, so I make it known how I feel now, in a bid that next time they might think.

Good on you Rosie.

We have a quiet lane in the village, used by dogwalkers, cyclists, and horse riders.
In the winter months, if turnout is in short supply we use it to give ponio some exercise and grazing. A lady who lives at the other end of the lane has NO manners whatsoever. She always turns into the lane without indicationg, speeds past etc etc.
One particularly bad morning for me (late night pmt etc etc) I was standing there, on the verge, ponio grazing. Suddenly, she turns into the lane, and peeps at me to move out of the way. I pointed to her indicators and she wound down the window and asked what my problem was.
In my most patronising voice I said "oh, sorry, I didnt see you indicate. Must be the strong sunlight eh??"
She just huffed and drove off.

She hasnt done it since!!

What an excellent reply, I usually end up shouting something stupid. just as well we don't get to many idiots when I'm out!!

haha good for you. sometimes people deserve all they get.
i had some nasty bint go past me, years ago, and when i yelled at her for speeding so fast (country lane, i was riding and leading and had them both on the wide verge, but took exception to the fact that she went past at 70ish), she actually turned the car around and deliberately drove at me. i started screaming at her (really frightened that she was going to break the horses' legs) and she stopped the car, left it running in the middle of the road with the door open (and lots of little kids in the back, she was obviously doing the school run, nice and responsible), and came back to yell abuse at me, saying i must be a crap rider if i couldn't control my horses (who had behaved perfectly the whole time).
absolutely livid by now (and relieved that other cars had turned up, were stuck behind her car, but at least i had witnesses if she drove at me again), i told her that actually i was an international rider, so how good did she want me to be, and to slow down before she killed someone, and then, before she started on me again, i finished with "oh, and lose some [****] weight." (she was about 20 stone) i know this was well below the belt, but it was very satifying, and it struck her to silence. as there were now witnesses, she left me alone, turned around again, and drove off.
i got her reg. no and reported her to the police (my boyfriend at the time was a cop!) and she got a verbal warning for using her car as a weapon. HA.
i've never lost it as badly as that again, but then, i've never been as frightened as that again.

Good for you (and the ex for treating her properly) bet that was a nasty shock for her, lots of motorists don't seem to realise that plenty of bobbies ride for a hobby, nice one!

Had a simiar issue on Saturady morning with an OAP!!!

Was riding down a quiet lane just enough room for a car and horse if you take it slowly, horse was being a bit spooky and wouldn't move quarters over so I could get on verge for OAP to get by. I put my hand up for him to slow down and he wound the window down and said ' this is a road you know' so I replied 'yes, it is and I am perfectly entitled to use it thank you very much, if you read your highway code you would know that'
I was so impressed with myself as I can never usually think of things to say in situations like that.

It is usually the boy racers you have to watch out for, now the OAPs are playing up too!
