I thought with all the poo weather, darkness and mud recently Id post a happy post!

Decided to box my mare to the woods yesterday morning to give her a good leg stretch on the sand gallops. I cant remember the last time we hacked out and I think both of us are soooooooo fed up with schooling.

Got to the woods about 11am and there were a fair few other boxes there. I wanted to go on my own though, so I could go hell for leather without having to worry them racing or anything getting over excited!
Tacked up and off we went

The sun was out, it was blooming freezing, but sunny none the less. My mare was happy and so was I!

We started off with a few excitable trots before we hit the sand gallop and just had a nice steady warm up canter, then came back and pushed on abit more. We then crossed over the other side of the woods, where there is a much longer strech to really 'go for it' along. We set of in a steady canter, to get past the dog walkers and runners, then weeeeeee we went full pelt

She has always evented (now my show jumper) and I think she really needed a good long gallop. I couldnt stop smiling, I think she was aswell

Once we'd come back to walk, she was so relaxed, as if to say 'Phew, thanks Mum, I REALLY needed that' We warmed down with a few steady canters and trots, then strolled back to the trailer happy as a pair of larry's with big cheesy grins on our faces. We both SO needed to blow the cob-webs away!

Just wish Id have had someone there take photos! Oh well, maybe next time...................next weekend!!

Sounds great, I am sitting just smiling at your description. I went hunting on Saturday and felt much the same after a couple of long gallops. As you say, just what is needed to blow the cobwebs away.
