Had the RSPCA down today

No, but the horse was clearly in a bit of a state when she took it on, and the consequence of this is that she was effectively 'chased off' her previous yard. No blame is attached to her at all.

If people were prepared to be that ignorant, then somebody calling out a welfare organisation might not be such a surprise. I have taken on some very poor animals in the past, and since I am not a recognised charity or rescue organisation I have always been ultra careful to keep documents, photos, vettings, etc just in case anybody ever suggested I might be responsible for the poor condition of the animal. It has never happened yet........but I was always prepared.

Yes but it was someone from her previous yard that reported her to the RSPCA was it not?
They know full well the circumstances surrounding that horse and that she had only owned him 3 weeks, they only did it to be bitchy.
And probably wildly over exagerated the horses condition and OP's care of him too which is maybe why he went in there with such an attitude.

What an unpleasant experience.
We had an Inspector call a few years back and say someone had reported we had a starving horse in the paddock.
What we actually had was a in foal mare diagnosed with stomach cancer who was well rugged and had haylage and a bucket of feed she was occasionally eating from . She was on expensive blood tonics, supplements galore and we were keeping her as comfortable as possible for the last few weeks until our vet did a managed delivery.
You could see lots of fat horses in all the surrounding paddocks so I asked him why they couldn't see that if a horse had food and was rugged, it was bleeding obvious it was being treated and cared for!
I rang my vet who lambasted him for actually calling and he seemed to realise it was a mistake.
I then marched him round all 40 plus horses and he had the grace to apologise, but my husband was livid and said they were never to set foot on here again unless accompanied by a Policeman.
I have totally lost faith in the RSPCA and that's to their loss, as our family had long supported them my Grandma even giving them in the thousands in donations.
When the lambs were dying because they were drowing in liquid mud during Foot and mouth I was disgusted they didn't hire a JCB and lift pallets over the fences ontot he mud, covered with straw they could have provided dry islands for the lambs. Call themselves the caring organisation. Huh, your post reminded me of why they will never get another penny from me.
What an insult, after all your effort to be accused of being neglectful.
Incidentally I don't think he should have bullied you like that, I think a word with your vet by phone should have been his first action.

Hello all, I've been at work all afternoon and evening (I work lunchtime [varies] until 9 or 10pm) and am just having a cuppa before I'm off out to do my boy.

This reply isn't aimed at anyone, I just started typing in the bottom box, and am unsure whether it's just a general reply or attaches itself to the previous poster or whatever....Just thought I'd make that clear incase I further upset anyone by them thinking the post is aimed at them specifically!!

I'm sorry if I've rocked the boat in any way. It was merely a rant to vent my frustrations. Much the same was as I would probably have posted had I had a terrible evening at work, crashed my car, the builders had c*cked up or whatever. I wouldn't have been damning the entire building profession, but rather the one who was working on my fireplace and disappeared for the best part of a fortnight, leaving my only source of heating at present in pieces (quite literally!) however that's a story for another day!

I for one commended them on their promptness (sp?) and I had no qualms about their visiting, nor was I in any way uncooperative nor obstructive. I wasn't worried as I have the full backing of my vet, plus independent witnesses who were with me when I collected him. I take photo's, keep a daily diary of everything he's fed, everything he actually eats, and what we do together. I had the vet out three times in the first week, for bloods, worming and as I was slightly paranoid he was going to drop dead. He now comes weekly. The farrier was here last week and is re-booked, the dentist came and I'm wondering if I ought to have a physio out to him as I'm concerned about muscle wastage etc, or should I wait until he's carrying more weight? Again I digress.....I have done everything I could possibly do to cover my own back.

It was the Inspectors attitude that upset me so much. Ok, so he may face a lot of hostility in his line of work, but I wonder if he'd have taken the same attitude with my husband, rather than me? I'm 5ft3, weight 8st2, am 25 but look about 12 (I got ID'd for cigs the other day lol)? It's an interesting thought?

I feel him treating me in this manner as 'the majority of owners of underweight animals behave in a hostile, uncooperative manner' a p*ss poor excuse. It prejudist. In my line of work I deal with a lot of foreigners, most of whom are inept at basic manners, I never get a please, or a thankyou. If I was to start automatically being rude to them as most of them are to me, I'd be slated!!

The small village where I live there is one black family, who are rude, dirty, slobs. Now these are the only black family I have contact with....what would happen if I was to judge all black people (which I don't I hasten to add) on this basis.....I'd be racist and people would be up in arms left right and centre.

An extreme example maybe, but what it comes down to is predjudism....he judged me before he knew me. In fact I think he had made up his mind before he arrived.

I wasn't trying to 'bash' the RSPCA in the slightest, merely share my story, though to be fair I think that one inspector has put me off supporting them for life, which is a shame, at a time they claim to need so much....
