I let my little girl in along with her brother for their tea, when I went to close their stable doors and start the nightly groom etc Fferny turned to look at me and I was presented with this:
Her eye was swollen like a golf ball and oozing yellow gunk, I made up some tea and got some cotton wool to bathe it...
However when I got up close and tried to touch it it was clear she was very sore (she usually lets me do anything to her) her top lid was swollen up so it was about 3-4mm thick and bright red. I rang the vet.
He came and sedated her, then gave her a local anestetic and put some dye in her eye to check for damage to the corena (thank god there was none) he thinks she may have had a horse fly get in there and bite the inside of her eyelid or have caught it on a branch.
Fferny sedated:
She has now got 5 days danilon (sp?) eye drops and my orders are to bathe with camomile tea beforehand. She came around slowly and is now back out with a fly mask on.
Poor baby
