Short version of a very long day is that Mattie decided to jump a 4 foot wide fence out of his field!

He cleared it with his front legs and dragged the fence down with his back legs and landed face first and then flipped over. He then got up and legged it across a field full of crops!

Downside is that the cut on his back leg is about half a centimetre deep in places and about 3 inches long but its a bit zig zaggy.
He also put his teeth through his lip so now has a nice chunk missing and grazed all his gums.

Took him to the vets and agreed that his leg couldn't be stitched and it was best left to heal, the same with his lip.
He was given a shot of antibiotics, painkillers and got his tet booster 8 months early!
My vet was wonderful even though Mattie did try to kick him!

On the plus side, he should make a full recovery and is allowed out to play as normal!
He is so lucky he didn't break his leg/back/neck!!

Why do they feel the need to do these things?

His field is very probably a perfectly good place to be with nice green stuff to chew on and friends to play with. Is that good enough for them?

No they would much rather try to kill themselves in a highly original and heartstopping fashion. Horses... who'd have 'em?!!

little monkey! pleased to hear his war wounds are superficial! Lets hope he has learnt his lesson and not attempt it again!! Do you know why he did it? Was he left out on his own? Ever done it before?? Hope he has a speedy recovery! xx

He was with two new horses in his field and we think as they were running together, no nastyness, just running and getting used to each other.
They did a lap of the field and Mattie forgot to turn, so locked onto the fence!
Stopping would have been too easy, so he crashed into a tree and then jumped the fence out!
Its a massive field of grass, he could have just mooched in the other direction but no! lol

He was having a back appointment soon so will carry on as normal with the rehab (yes hes in rehab for something else!).

Last time he jumped out of his field (3 years ago) was over a 6 foot hedge!!

Also, if a horse is going to do something like that, it will be my horse! Always bloody is! Stupid bugger!

Horses eh! Sounds like he is a very lucky lad, when I was a child a friend kept her 2 year old with our horses. She decided to jump into the next field over a post and rails but flipped over and broke her neck
