Since my cob is on box rest for the next 3 weeks i have now decided to kick the baby D out in a 10 acre field with 3 other horses till spring time :) it will do him good to absorb what he has learnt, we finished on a good note with our first solo hack and he was a star :) now he needs to grow a bit more :)

So looks like no riding for me for a little while and TBH it feels nice not to be under pressure about riding, i always feel guilty if i don't ride?!! also its nice not to be swimming around in water and mud (fields are terrible) and its good knowing one is stabled and cosy the other out on a huge grassy field :)

Anyone else had to turn away due to rain?

yes I have, albeit due to the weather and being pregnant , its too slippy too ride having an older more slippy prone horse so just given in and letting him have summer off.
Hopefully hubby will ride him in the better weather.
 
I've done very little...the tracks and lanes are just too slippery even for unshod horses... I've stopped feeling guilty, there's little I can do about it and the break will probably do me good.
I'm enjoying slobbing about watching telly, playing Xbox and drinking tea:)
 
Luckily both mine and my mum's horses are semi-retired. They live out so get a bit of exercise anyway, but haven't been ridden for a while due to the weather (we ride in woods so it's tii dangerous to ride in wind at the moment as trees are coming down quite often) and due to my ill health. We only have to ride about three times a week so are both trying not to feel guilty that it's been about two weeks now, but it's also nice not to have the pressure of a competing or stabled horse to keep fit, sane and schooled! As long as the mud monsters are fed, rugged and hayed they can stay grubby and un-worked for a bit!
 
Yes, i have brought both mine home for a few weeks as felt guilty with them being stuck up at the livery yard with rubbish fields to be turned out in, the outdoor has been waterlogged and the indoor school lights have fused and needing sorted out! So gave up at least at home they can be turned out in a good field with plenty of grass and if the weather does turn they can take to the field shelter and i just bring them back in at night. I hope the weather picks up soon so we can start enjoying our horses again!!
 
Yes one is recuperating and the youngster can have some more time until the weather is more settled to get back into work after backing last autumn. Frustrating to say the least!
 
No but would like to!

Unfortunately due to the field conditions I can't turn them away, and so they are still having to be predominately stabled. Therefore they still need excercising......vicious circle!
 
Turned mine away due to pregnancy (due in 3 wks) but would have ended up doing so with all the rain anyhow...tho if not pg would have done a bit more than I have, when/if any weather breaks came along, just stuff on the ground probs and the l/r pony would have got out more.
looking forward to bringing them (and me!) gently back into work with mini CCW #2 alongside! And fingers crossed we actually have a spring....rather than the horror of a second winter instead, like we did last year! :eek:
 
Yes i have. We go for short walks inland down the lane but for hacking, we have bridleways and woodland. The mud on the bridleways us knee deep and it doesn't feel safe in words at the moment. The school is under water too so can't use that either. He doesn't mind-he's been worked 6 days a week all year so a little holiday does him no harm.
 
I have not ridden since october as I had a nasty virus and had no balance until after christmas. I have a retired horse, youngster and riding horse so only one is missing out, but he has every winter off anyway. They all live out so get exercise in that way.

Although I am shocked how much weight he has put on in the last 2 months, when usually he is a good spring weight now..
