haematoma or bruise?

Well my poor horse was kicked on the front inside of her thigh. She is sound on it however there is broken skin and swelling, which is larger today. It is probably 8cm x 12cm at its largest points, there is no heat but it is hard to toouch. Do you think it is a burise or a haematoma? What is the best way to treat it initially? I think it is a bad bruise and have been cold hosing it, she is not lame

I have a haematoma at the moment, and can say that it very definitely is not hard *as I squish it!*

As a bruise then I think you're right to be cold hosing it

Hope she's back to normal soon.

Haematomas are blood filled areas and are soft and squidgy so doesnt sound like one. More likely a bruise as Bounty said.

Just to update you the swelling has greatly reduced so I am going for a bruise. However this morning she has filling to the front of fetlock and pastern. Not sure if this is a different thing or she has managed to bang that as well? That would now be her 3rd thing in a week though!

I have tunred her out in the hope is oges down and then I will see how it is tonight with a view to just walking her out
