Hi Guys,

I have a haflinger and have owned him for 4yrs. I had never seen a haflinger before I got him but fell in love with him straight away! I never met a horse with his chracter thou, i yet to find something hes scared off, he is very nosey and likes to go and look at everything, thinks everyone and everything wants to be his friend (even if there ears are flat back and teeth coming his way), he really just doesn't give a damn about anything (apart from food!!) He really makes us laugh you just don't expect a horse to do some of the things he does, like trying to see if he can eat the clippers why you are cliiping him.
don't get me wrong im not complaning hes worth his weight in gold just woundered if that is what the breed is like or i really do have 1 in a million!!

I've never owned a horse but I have been riding a 14.2hh haflinger gelding for the past 6/7 months in my lessons. I'd seen them before but not in a riding school and like you, I've completely fallen in love with them

This one does have his downsides, like for intance he's is afraid of cows and has bucked me off twice now, but I just can't seem to stay away

is absolutely bombproof but as far as he is concerned there are only 2 ways of doings - his way or the wrong way. He will search your (or anyboy who stands still long enough) for food, can open gates and doors, unties himself and carries his leadrope in his mouth as he buggers off. He's lovely to ride, forward going with a long stride who keeps up easily with arabs and WBs buuuuuuuut if you don't want to be bucked off, you let him decide the speed (fast!). Oh and he doesn't "do" maneges or schooling, he just plants and refuses to move.

Wouldn't change him for the world, he gave me my confidence back after a loopy Welshie.

They are all fab, we used to have two.

One was the finer build and he was about 15 we got him but it was for my sister who was learning and she could take him anywhere. Even got her leg trapped by the wing mirror of a car whilst hacking and the car didnt slow down and poor Cracker had to canter to keep up, Bless him. She was only thirteen but gave the driver a mouthful about 'hurting her horse'. I was there on another horse and do you know the lad never put a foot wrong all the way back afterwards and went out again the next day as though nothing had happened. Not many would have!!! Unfortunately we lost him to colic a couple of years ago but my sister never stops talking about him.

The other one we've still got. He is a ride and drive,a real chunky type, will do anything you ask but was a little too cheeky for my sister when she was a novice, but she rides and drives him now,. He is a real family pony . However he does have a habit of trying to trot after motorbikes if they overtake him....

So like you guys I would have another in a heartbeat..
