My yearling did some major damage to her back leg but the vet thinks that within another 8 weeks it will be healed and we're really happy to hear that as its been a long struggle with alot of setbacks to get her right.
However their now talking about doing a graft on the scar to help with the hair growing back there. The lady that owns the stable that our horse is at thinks she's heard of an oil that can be rubbed onto the scar to encourage new growth though.
We'd rather not have to put our horse through anymore pain or stress which a graft will do.
Does anyone have a name or info on such a product?

vitamin E oil helps

or put camrosa on, it also encourages growth, as does cornucresine

To be honest, the hair follicles are probably damaged and, if so, nothing will make the hair gow back. Worth trying though.

As Donklet says, if the original damage was bad enough and deep enough to destroy the hair follicles, no amount of rubbing anything in will help. Skin graft, where they take tiny punches of skin + hair from an inconspicuous area eg under the mane, is probably your best bet if it's that important. If the hair follicles at the original injury site are just battered, they may yet grow back hesitantly - may come back white too.

I was told goose fat is amazing; can't say I've tried it. Keeping the skin moist with a greasy ointment seems to be the recurrent theme and certainly won't do any harm.
