Hair Loss *pics*

I was away to brush my mare and I rubbed my hand down the inside of her legs to make sure she didnt have any lumps and bumps etc and the hair literally just fell out in my hand. It happened on all 4 legs but back legs are the worst. She has never done anything like this before. She is brushed everyday. Do you think it just from her casting or could something else be causing it. Vet will be out this week for a vaccination anyway so will get him to check it out just wondered what it could be.

She's moulting! My chestnut mare does this every year, about half way through her moult she suddenly throws out the hair on her legs and it just all falls out as you brush it/run hands over it. Bit odd, but I've had her since a foal and she's 11 this year and none the worse for it.

My mare moults like this dont worry its normal for the legs to look a bit bald.

I think it's called seasonal alopecia. Mine's done it before - it can look rather alarming, but the summer coat appears within about a week.

Thanks guys. It was very alarming I must admit. Had her 3 years and she never done it before. But glad its nothing to worry about.

My horse has just started doing this. Never done it before in 5 years. I was quite worried so glad I saw this!
