Does anyone know what would cause my OAP to loose large amounts of hair from her tail? She has no sores or discomfort but when I was brushing her tail the hair came out in a worryingly large amount leaving the top of her dock almost bald. The lower hairs in her dock aren't falling out just the top ones. I decided to check her companions tail and , yes she is loosing hair but no more than any other pony we have, just a moult ing in hers I guess. Thay are both on good grazing, fed the same feeds and managed in the same way. Sov, the baldy, is 26 years old and Mony is 29 years old and I give them cortafex, galic and codlivine in their senior feeds as well as giving them mineral licks about their paddock.

I have had her 3 months now and she is coming in to good condition at last, her tail was fine up until this weekend. Could she be missing something mineral wise? I have never seen this before.

do you wrap her tail ? They could be rubbing there bum against something and that could be causing ti to fall otu. A horse im looking ats mane does that.

I don't wrap her tail, but she has a tail flap on her summer turn out, I did consider it being her rug but thought I was being a bit dim lol now you have suggested this I am thinking you are right....it hasn't been on while the weather has been nice so I will have a look when I go up and see if it has improved at all. Thanks
