My horse has rubbed out a rather large section of his mane, and also had a v. bad bridle path cut ( Not by me! NEVER again will I let someone trim my pony!) Looking through previous posts, it seems Megatek is fairly recommended... is this still the case? Cornucresine seems another favourite, but v. messy and don't really want to rub it into my grey!:o
Any views on megatek? Or suggestions to what else might work? I know anything I do will take a while... I just want that while to be as short as possible! :D

I've used it on bald spots and I think it does make a difference, it's not a miracle cure but seems to come back quicker, smells lovely too!

I've tried it on five different animals, followed the instructions to the letter, not a jot of help.

I use pig oil and sulphur on mane and tail, and my boy's mane grows about an inch a month or two, it's incredible. I rub it into the crest and the tail bone, as well as using it on his feathers. sm x

Megatek does work, but can take a while - best on rubbed spots, but make sure whatever caused the rub is still not rubbing. If you use it on the bottom of the mane etc spray some coat gloss on top as it is quite creamy will stick to any rug you put on it.

I tend to use it neat rather than diluting it, put a bit in the palm of your hand and rub it in.

With an over long bridle path, the best thing to do is to let it grow out completely over the winter or when you're not showing and keep it trimmed now, the regrowth looks horrible :)

Thanks everyone :)
With the pig oil and sulphur, do you have to buy it seperately and mix it? Where can you get it from?
As for the bridle path, I really don't know what to do! We've found my boy is doing quite well showing at the moment so want to carry on with that! But obviously involves plaiting up, and it looks ok with a bridle on when it's trimmed, but it really annoys me and I hate trimming it back down. But equally, the regrowth does look horrible, I don't know what to do?!

You can get PO and S pre-mixed from ebay. It last for ages, I apply it once a fortnight. It also stops mud sticking, and it seems to be great at repelling midges too. One 5 litre thingy lasts me about four - six months - I put it in a squeezy small bottle and squirt it on. :D sm x

I swear by it - after years of Cairo having no mane due to chemo, it grew his mane back, ok it was still thin, but he finally had a mane down his neck. I use it neat on rubs and wounds and on my gypsy cob, I mix it 50 - 50 with water and apply to the roots of his mane, tail, forelock and in summer I also use it sprayed on his feather to keep it in tip top show condition and growing like mad. It is also soothing on SI areas.

I will be using it myself after the 8th July when my chemo is finished to get my hair back as fast as I can - it was originally developed for people who had chemo.

I use P&S for mite prevention and keeping the hair in good condition in winter with the thick mud, but too much oil on the hair is not so good for growth and if it is growth you want, then megatek is the better product, especially when you use it with the survivor detangler they do.

Finally, it smells so nice.

I used it on my appy mare over a fairly lengthy period of time, and it didn't do anything for her mane :( But like you say, some people swear by it, and I was reccommended it by people on here, so must work for some :)

I used it on my NF. In the April he had about a 4 inch section of mane missing. Used Megatek (rubbed it in neat once a day) and he had a full mane by the New Forest Show at the end of July.
