Hello, I'm looking for some advice on my new horse and the best cream/treatment to help hair regrowth. unfortunately I am unsure how to add pictures however there was a sore around the girth which became infected, which was how she came to me. After a week of steroid cream from the vet it is now cleared up however I am just waiting for the hair to re-grow ( and as the vet had stated) and wondered if anyone has ever experienced this or has a recommendation of a cream etc I could use?

I would just put a little aloe vera on to keep the skin supple and let nature take it's course. I think heavy creams can block the porse and delay healing.
My horse had a bite which got infected and it actually took around twelve months to recover satisfactorily. I tried E45 cream on recomendation but that actually caused hair loss around the wound. Gentle massage may help to stimulate hair growth.

Supreme Products Mane and Tail Builder is good (I used on a balding arab and it really helped), the smell reminds me of the hoof tar I used to use as a child, but they say hair and nails are made of similar stuff so would make sense!

Calendular oil (Neals Yard £8 ish a bottle) is great for soft tissue healing, decant some in to a small bottle and add 6-8 drops of rosemary. It is meant to trigger the hair folicles to regrow as long as they folicles aren't damaged beyond repair. I absolutely wouldn't use anything that might upset it, skin is delicate and needs soothing for it to mend, the skin needs nourishing so definitely nothing like hibe scrub or salt water!

Other things which work well are bio-oil (my trainer recommends this but I have not used), Shapely's MTG (I recommend this) and also Camrosa ointment (great write up's but some horses can react to it)

Plus in your case I would use a (real) sheepskin girth sleeve.

My horse had a terrible reaction to Shapleys enormous swellings both sides

Definitely use a proper sheepskin/lambswool girth cover the extra length ones that cover the whole girth the hair grew back on its own when I had similar using the wool girth cover I didn't put anything on it once it had healed
