I'm just wondering if the placing of hair whorls on a horses head were hereditary? My 6th month old foal has 3 whorls on his face, between his eyes, exactly the same as his mum.
Is this just coincidence or is it actually genetic?

A geneticist once said to me, "Everything is genetic".

Then he spoilt it by adding, "...of course, an endocrinologist would say that everything is hormonal".

Take your pick!:D

My mare has three whorls on her forehead but none anywhere else on her body, her mum didn't have any on her face but had three on her neck, two on her chest and one on her stifle so not really sure about the hereditary bit. My MIL bought me a book many years ago, when my mare was born, she is now 20, that linked whorl position, shape and size to personality it was very interesting. It also linked head, ear and body shape to temperament. My mare has fitted the book's profile for every one of her features it is amazing.

Crugeran Celt: After talking to my friend today about whorls I looked on HHO to see if there was anything about them on here. I have just read your post and wondered if you could give me the name of the book you have. Thank you.

This isn't horse related but thought I'd add it in anyway as it's genetics related!

When my gran was pregnant with my dad she accidentally burned my granddad on the chest with the tip of her cigarette. When my dad was born he had a birthmark on the exact same place and the exact same size as my granddads scar from the burn... how WEIRD is that?

When I was a toddler I fell off the couch and smashed my cheekbone on a biscuit tin which was sitting on the floor, to this day I still have a dent in my cheekbone, though you can now only see it when I smile. When my son was born three years ago he had a dent on the same cheekbone as I do, and it's still very visible.

Spooky stuff, it fascinates me!
