My hairy traditional cob is loosing his mane and im not sure why!!
Ive had him 2 years and had no problems until the last few weeks.
I try not to brush his mane regularly so it doesnt pull it out and i generally leave it as it is.
However, the last few weeks it seems to be knotting up and when i touch it it is coming out. It seems to already be out and thats why its knotting up...

Im at a loss of what to do. Ive just given it a good wash and bought some megatek as well...
Should i plait it up to prevent it getting moved about too much?

The skin is pink and i cant see anything wrong, it is only a small patch in the middle and the rest seems fine... :/

BAH!!

Is the skin healthy with no sign of lice or mange ? If so, usual suspects are being too warm from rugs, another horse being a mane chewer or your cob has found somewhere to scratch himself in the field or stable.

I know a lot of people use Megatek but when I used some my horse was irritated, so tried it on myself (as you do :o) and it made my scalp tingle like mad.

Sweet itch. No doubt. Benzyl benzoate with avon skin so soft. My hairy had it a few years ago. Took ages to get it back. Oh and sudocream. Good luck.

Does look like its being rubbed out! I would plait to protect from knotting and put a fly rug on. My friends ponio is suffering already and is having to be protected 24hrs. Agree with putting benzoyl benzoate on it and spray with SSS.

What a shame as his mane must have been beautiful :(
