I have a hairy Dales who is in light work (bone spavin ). He is out during the day and in at night and gets sweaty when hacking out.

Not sure how much to take off...anybody got any pics of there Dales clipped or any ides of what to go for ?

You'll probably get more replies if you post this in New Lounge or Stable Yard. Meanwhile ... you could start with something like a trace and take more off if you need to. Presuming that you can rug appropriately, I'd take off as much as you need to to make his life pleasant while being exercised.

My favourite clip for a hairy type in light work is a low chaser. From the stifle to the throat, keeping it low over the shoulder, legs left on. You can always go higher on the next clip as his workload increases. No pictures though.:o

I always give my horse a blanket, shes not a dales but is very fluffy! I find it helps keep her clean during the winter and you can make sure she doesnt get sores from the sweat in areas that might rub!

as long as you have some good rugs he should be fine, esp if he comes in at night! mine lives out all year round and is now 26 and is still totally cool with being clipped!

I've just given my hairy Dales who is only in light work for the moment a chaser clip. If his workload increases I will extend it to a blanket clip or even a full clip. My Dales lives out even when fully clipped in medium weight rugs.
