Hello, my traditional HW cob has very hairy legs which I want to tidy up. Is their an alternative to clipping them off, which I can easily do, but I hate that shaved look that he has for a few weeks after. Is it possible to use a mane thinning rake just to tidy them up? Any ideas would be great thanks - makeover is set to happen this weekend (just don't tell Merlin or he won't come in from his field!!). Thanks :)

I use clippers but very loosely going down from knee to get worst off (so hair still longer than you'd want) then trim with the normal comb & scissors way.

Whilst I never touch the hair on my clydesdale and gypsy cob, if I were to, I would thin them with a clippersharp rake and then "pull" the longer hair at the back as you would a mane.

Some people with gypsy cobs that have a lot of native in them do this to make them look more of a native type for the ring and if done carefully you can change them so they look more like a Welsh D.

Thanks BB - that's the kind of thing I was thinking of. Sounds like I could also use it to tame my border terriers coat (she hates being stripped).
