Hi,

My half chaps have the bottom buttons broken (the pop buttons to "secure" the zip).
Does anyone know if it's worth having the buttons changed (if so where can I have them done and how much would it cost?) or I am better off buying a new pair? (they are Dublin Easycare had them for about 3 years but appart from the 2 buttons they are in vgc)

If better to buy new ones, which ones would you advise to buy knowing I only hack please? -appart from the Dublin easycare-

Thanks a lot :-)

I have a pair of Loveson ones that only cost £20, they are very hard wearing and comfortable I use them for stable work not just riding so it is great that they are also machine washable! Unless the ones you have are leather and were expensive I doubt it would be worth the cost of replacing the button.

Any decent old fashioned cobbler should be able to replace the popper.

For replacement chaps we have found the Tuffa ones are good and while the suede ones were used daily and are quite long lasting the suede rubs shiny and doesn't look so good after a year so after debating andtrying on heaps over the past 2 years we've now got the same thing in plain leather. Didn't rate the Loveson ones, after the first wash one was a completely different colour to the other - fine if on the pony, not so good if off the pony.

Just remembered I have a lovely pair of leather ones I got for under £30 from Centell Saddlery (in same place as Hall Place riding stables nr Reading, where Charlie76 works). I don't know the make but they seemed to be British made, I think there was a union jack on the label saying leather on the (otherwise unmarked) bag They're 3 or 4 years old but being a nice quality of leather haven't gone too baggy and still polish up lovely when needs be.
