I found Sylvia loch gave a great description in her book, but i've not read it for ages and mine have gone a bit to pot too! lol. Will have to dig it out.

I know just what you mean! I have been using his lessons to remind myself of the basic principles of working a horse correctly and it has made a huge difference, particularly with getting my very tense lad to fully relax through his back in the warm up before moving onto work "proper"
I have spent the weekend experiencing the same thing. My boy can be very tense too and we spent a lot longer than I would normally on warming up before working on anything and thinking more about the basics again. I think it helped slow everything down and he certainly appreciated it.
I've gone and bought Sylvia Loch's book, 'Dressage in lightness' and am hoping for more of the same.
