Halfway through pregnancy

Had the vet out to check my mare yesterday and make sure she was still pregnant and all ok - she was last scanned at 25days. Anyway, everything is fine, she had her herpes injection, we have a live foal and vet is really pleased with how Tia looks, she's 5.5months now so halfway through! Really excited, hope everyone else with mares in foal are doing ok :)
 
contratulations lauren, did you have another scan or just a physical exam.
i'm in the same position and didnt know what to do, my maiden is acting normal except she thankfully hasnt come back in season, so hope she's still pregnant. i didnt know whether to get her checked again or not, she was last scanned at 35 days, all was well and the 'blob' had a heartbeat and vet said it looked normal. looking forward to next may!
 
Ditto the above, my mare is also 5 1/2 months in foal :) :) :) :)
I also asked the vet the same question when she gave my mare the 1st injection EHV (herpes)
Mare was scanned last at 48 days and all was well, so i asked the vet can we check her...
vet told me the scan method really wouldn't be practical now as foal would be too big for the scan to display the image, and to manually check is a risk!!! so the only safest way is to do a blood test at £42, decided against it as i have a gut feeling all is well, and no need to prove she is or isn't in foal for the stud fee's, I have been keeping a monthly dairy with photo's of her, and this month she has for sure changed shape "a little"... so fingers crossed I will have a live healthy foal next year. Would be interested to see how everyone else is getting on :)

Thankyou! She had an internal examination, vet felt her uterus which is obviously a totally different shape now and could feel the foal moving around in the fluid. Even though we thought she was still in foal (not been in season, got a bit of a squidgy belly and just sort of slowed down a bit riding recently even though she's not fat) I was still nervous about yesterday, so relieved and excited now! Maybe you could get your vet to check your mare over in a month, just for peace of mind and allows you to plan next year/breeding/riding depending on the outcome, i'm sure all is fine and good luck! make sure you post updates with how everything goes :)
 
Just seen your message Gucci_b Our vet never mentioned any risk, she's been great at telling me the pro's and con's of all stages of AI, pregnancy etc. She examined her via her rectum and felt the uterus from the outside (probably obvious I know!) so wouldn't have thought there was any risk? Hope all is well with your mare, look forward to seeing fluffy foal photos next spring!
 
You know... vet's tend to go on their experience and knowledge I feel and of course the client, and because I have no stud fee's involved with the "in foal or not in foal", am willing to let nature takes it's course and what will be will be, don't get me wrong I would luv to know for sure :) maybe on the 7Th month EHV Jab ?????

Were not quite that far gone, but if you look on our blog you can see she is already showing!
My girl isnt a maiden but as she has always been of the super slim super model TB version i was shocked at how big she has got!

Whats the correct procedure for jabs? My girl is due her annual one in Nov, take its best to just have flu and then flu and tet nearer to foaling time?
 
Injection for EHV (herpes) are normally carried out at 5,7 & 9 months and on the advise from my Vet my mare had her annual flu jab and then before she is due will have her annual vaccinations of Tet and flu.
 
Tia is having her hepres jabs at 5, 7 and 9 months. Her jab at 5months was combined with her annual flu vaccination, then she will have flu and tet before she foals (on advice of our vet).

No scan photos as it was just a "feel"!

Cruiseline - we can but hope! As long as we have a healthy mum and baby I'll be very happy but it would be the icing on the cake!
 
My mare is four and a half months gone. She had colic surgery six weeks ago, and so her baby was checked after the surgery to see if it had survived and then again just before she came home. This was done by a scanner, but the vet did it through her abdomen, rather than rectally. Baby was moving about loads, thank goodness, was such a worry, could have lost them both.

Anyway, my mare is showing a bit already, but I think this is because she lost so much weight with the colic surgery, so is now only a condition score of 2.5/5. The vet isn't too worried though.
