Long time lurker, first time poster here!

I'm going on a BHS organised halloween ride on the 30th October around Elvastan Castle in Derbyshire, and I really really want to enter the fancy dress competition!

I have a few ideas for what me and my loan pony, Blue, can go as. It helps that she's very tolerant so I can probably go quite overboard and she wouldn't mind, although whether I would be able to do a 6 mile ride in an OTT costume is another thing....

So far, me and her owner have come up with.. A knight, fairy and unicorn, harry potter and a hippogriff, gandalf and shadowfax (which I like but not sure how to hide the tack?) or racing stripes.

Some photos of the gorgeous pony...

And on the last fun ride we did, we're second from the right, I love this photo!

Any ideas welcome!

If you have the artistic skill - a skeleton. Use black child's finger paint because it washes off properly (and hope it doesn't rain!) and paint where the bones are. Then wear a black skeleton onsie yourself. Very effective!

We have done a few of these :) The last one I wore a cloak and a long frock, a long black and pink wig and the mare had a black lace quater sheet and plaits ( not rolled up) fastened with black rags I also had face paint and fangs so we were a vampire and her horse. The mare is orange so we went as a pumpkin once, with pumpkins hanging on her mane (made of scrunched up orange napkins with green paper leaves) I wore green breeches and an orange fleece and made an orange hat cover. There is also the old standby of a witch, you can usually find some good material at this time of year to make a type of quater sheet to tie the horses costume and yours together. I also made a wicked godmother hat one year, again with a cloak and a wand.
Enjoy :)

go as death from the disc world books from Terry Pratchett, long black cloak with hood syth and a breast plate with Blinky named on it (death used to have a skeleton horse but found it very awkward trying to jump when he would just fall apart, so he bought Binky)
