Halter and headcollar are the same thing ? We say halter back home vs over here

In old money this is a halter, usually either webbing or rope but thicker rope the the knotted ones. Headcollar has the throat lash and connecting straps.

Isn't this a terrible picture

I had a headcollar like the Hy one posted earlier which I think is similar to the one the OP is referring to. The headcollar didn't have a throatlash clip which on a normal headcollar means you can take the headcollar off as a bridle. Instead it had a clip which went from the throatlash ring to the buckle for the headpiece. It meant that once the headpiece was adjusted, yard staff could just clip and unclip easily without pushing/ pulling over the ears. The fieldsafe part on mine was that you could clip to a metal ring for leading and to a plastic ring on a velcro tab for leaving in the field. The headcollar was a cottage craft fieldsafe. The design was so useful, but new versions also have a velcro noseband which doesn't last long. I gave up looking for an equivalent and made my own leather version.

I am indeed not from the UK. Halter and headcollar go by the same name here. I therefore did not fully understand the confusion, but I am glad that it became clearer somewhere along the way. I find the halter that Criso showed practical. But I do not believe that I have ever seen it sold here under the name halter.

I am aware that you can unbuckle most halters. But quite a few people at my stable put them inside and outside. And despite repeated requests they simply do not do it, they find buckles too much work. My MT is broken, so out of frustration I have now fixed the throat clip with glue (it does not hold).

So I am really looking for a solution for her with a fixed throat. And fieldsafe because unlike my other one I do not put her outside without a halter.

I saw someone recommend the rhinegold. I had this one, but it was not a success. Every time she started to roll, everything came loose.

I really cannot get the MT anywhere in size cob anymore.

I have thought about the Roma halter with fixed throat strap... Maybe I can tinker with that myself.

In any case, I have ordered the HY. It seems to have the same closure. It will take about 3 weeks before it arrives. Other tips are certainly welcome.

Could you maybe use electrical tape, or something similar, and tape up the throatlatch? That's what I did when I had a mare with really bad pollups, same as you no one ever listened to me about not putting it over her ears, but if I taped the clip on the throatlatch up, it had to be done the other way

Hi OP- would something like this do the trick? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/38732943...OGp7L86IPNzi3xL57NoGGTmU8=|tkp:Bk9SR7qO7NK1ZA

It's leather, so ought to be field safe- head buckle and nose closure, but no clip?

There's also this one which is similar: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/33550640...fvpa6JknOkoziLL4fE3K+Y/jw=|tkp:Bk9SR7qO7NK1ZA

I also found this one which seems quite expensive for what it is but might meet all the requirements? https://www.hopevalleysaddlery.co.u...ck__72014?currency=GBP&chosenAttribute=3004-C

Good idea, I am going to do that.

I am keeping the leather options in the back of my head. Those where my first options on the beginning. But I have tot replace those headcollars every 5 / 6 weeks and that is a expensive option. So I would prefer the velcro, but if no other option...
