Latex gloves and fleece lined Dublin full chaps. Any good hand cream with SPF of at least 15. The kit is so good nowadays, you shouldn't have to put up with chilblains and cracked hands!
Chillblains - Thermal long johns and ski pants. Never wear jeans. As Kerilli said, don't get into a hot bath/shower whilst you're still cold.
Hands - these gloves are brill - you can do anything in them http://www.atlasgloveshop.co.uk/
This year I have suffered with really bad hands, due to eczema. They were so split and cracked I couldn't even move my hands. I was sent to hospital where after 5 months of trying different steroid creams which only made it worse and blister, they did some tests. It seems that I am allergic to a preservative called Phenoxyethanol, which is found in alot of cosmetics, shampoos, conditioners, detregents and moisturising creams. Hence the fact that it was only getting worse, because along side steroid cream I was using Aqueous Cream, which contains this Phenoxyethanol. Since getting a diagnosis My hands are healing, although look about 20 years older than I am.
For creams I would suggest Epaderm cream or ointment, might be a bit pricey but well worth it, you can get it from good Phamacies over the counter. I also used the cheap magic gloves with pimle palms, and have found that there isn't anything I can't do whilst wearing them.
Heel to Hoof works really well, as I found out when treating a hosre with mud fever.
I've tried the Gardners Cream, Body Shop Hemp shop, Norwegian Formula... etc etc... but my mum put me on to some miracle cream. Lotil cream, you buy it in big pots from Boots for about £5.50 (not the small tubes, not worth the money). It heals up those nasty sore cuts you get at the tips of your fingers in a couple of days, and really protects and moisturises your hands. The Lotil foot cream is brilliant as well. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&k...sl_7jx2r6uvq0_b
