Sat at work bored and am just pondering when do you change from giving a horses height in inches to hands because sheltlands are say 30inches then a pony can be 10hh at what point does it change?!!

I think it's just a convention that applies to certain breeds Catherine. I know Shetlands' height is always given in inches and I imagine it would apply to all miniatures - someone else will know for certain!

thanks, I was just wondering because then after shetland height if its not in hands its in cm's there seems to be no logic to it. Like you say im sure some1 will enlighten us!!

Mini's are usually in inches, can be in centimetres, also for falabellas etc, I think!!!

I suppose if you said something was 5hh it would be a bit odd. As hands are the traditional way of measuring horses and ponies ( I don't do centimetres!!), it is probably easier to imagine a small pony in inches terms!

Now centimetres are a whole new ball game, I'm still trying to figure that one out!!!

I don't do cm when it comes to horses - I just can't picture what size a horse is unless I'm given the height in hands!
