Hanging Cheek Snaffle - poll pressure or not?

You'll get some pressure, but not as pronounced as a gag or pelham. V. useful for horses that fiddle with the bit as it's hard for them to really take hold as there is more movement than with an eggbutt.

A little- It can be seen if the cheek pieces are slightly too long!
A lady I know rides in one and when she pulls the reins the top ring comes right forward which in turn would apply poll pressure.
Obviously the cheeks should be the correct length/adjusted too the bit- just it makes it more obvious too see!

Noooooo. Physics says NO.

It cannot produce poll pressure because there is no lever arm. It often allows a horse to go better because it creates a more secure, less moving contact.

No. It suspends the bit in the horse's mouth for stability, there is no poll pressure as there is no shank to provide leverage.

But...but...I just did some physics exams, and have two more - in that world I would have just been making up some crazy stuff...;)

Another no for poll pressure here. :)

To be fair, physics is essentially people making up crazy stuff and then hoping for the best... Our entire basis of everything has only just been proven to be the correct idea, about a million years after its conception :D And if my physics exams were anything to go by, ALL I did was make up crazy stuff!

(engineering is better!)

True, but in the world where physics doesn't apply they'd be even more far-fetched!

(I'm a materials scientist - almost, definitely better than just physics!)

Sorry for going off topic OP. :o

No poll pressure... I'm sure BD would agree also ;) They're pretty damn strict with bits... are they REALLY likely to let you use something will poll pressure for Prelim, but NOT a bit that offers some tongue relief?
Ok... tbh, It's possible, but I'd hope that wasn't the case :p

There is definitley, 100% NO poll pressure with a hanging cheek. Common misconception but one that people need to know. There cannot be poll pressure when there is no lower ring to attach the rein too.
