Hanging cheek snaffle

They allow a bit of rotation of the cheek pieces as you pull on the reins which makes for a bit of poll pressure. Sort of a slightly stronger snaffle.

because of the increased metalwork they can also be a bit more stable in the mouth than snaffles and also wont get pulled through the mouth like some eg loosering snaffles can be.

I havent noticed a big change in brakes etc since using one but I have noticed an improvement in the bit moving around less side to side and pony is a bit more settled as a result.

I use a french link one so that probably dumbs down some of the effect anyway.

I used this from a standard d snaffle as old boy was strong in mouth due to being driven and on the odd occassion I needed to turn him in corner of field to stop him....the D ring was likely to come through his big old jaws as I was standing in stirups pulling on one side for dear life(not ideal I know but when tarmac road is approaching necessary to stop him). So switch to full cheek etc and it did seem to make a difference and we never looked back.

That was why was just for turning.(I had a horse with steel sides too..not very well schooled)!
