ok need everyones bitting advice again i am sorry. still struggling with horsey and shes now fit as a flea and i am struggling to keep hold of her. was originally in a plain eggbutt snaffle which i changed to a french link as she was leaning on it this helped the leaning but my brakes began to fail so i now have her in a waterford but brakes still not good and my horse doesnt not like this bit and is throwing her head about she has always done this when wound up or through loss of temper but since ive had her in waterford its been more frequent. some one suggested to me today to try a hanging cheek snaffle ive never used one so i had a quick look on derby house and robbies and there was a few so im not sure which would be best. all advice greatfully recieved
thanx debbie

my pony has a loose ring snaffle & a hanging cheek snaffle.

i alternate which bit i use with him because when he 1st has the hanging cheek in, he works beautifully, (soft, round & really engaged) then say 2 weeks later he really starts to lean so i change him back to his bog standard snaffle & change vice versa.

i do find that my brakes in the hanging cheek aren't very effective once he is going through his leaning stages..

every horse is different so i suppose if you're willing to spend the money on a new bit, then perhaps it's worth it.

I tried a hanging cheek with my boy and frankly found it totally useless, he is not particularly strong and is only 5 so has a fairly soft mouth but i didn't find it any better than my fulmer snaffle with a lozenge. i tend to alternate it with my loose ring snaffle with a lozenge and find that helps.
i think if yours is quite strong i'd try a 3 ring gag instead, think that hanging cheek is pointless myself.
