A french link is milder than a single joint and a lot of horses prefer them. A single joint can tend to pinch the horse in the mouth as when you pull on the reins it has a nutcracker action. The hanging cheek effect will put pressure on the poll, encouraging the horse to lower his head. It's quite a simple bit really - but I can't say what effect it would have on your horse without knowing how it is going, why you are using one, what bit you have in at the mo, etc.

i ride her in a egg butt snaffle , at home but at shows we have major issues like no breaks or sticking our nose out and bugering off at every fence :S if i put her in some thing like a bubble bit second hole we just fight it like mad and end up arguing

up to the fences and not seeing them therefore trashing it. so what do you think ...?

yes they are dressage legal under BD rules.

Ive found that most of my ponies go better in french links then in egbutts.

My connemara is in a hanging cheek frenchlink snaffle, this is because he has a low palette so when a plain single jointed snaffle is pulled on the point hits the top of his mouth and he goes ballistic (very interesting to try and sit to).
I chose the hanging cheek because he likes poll pressure.

my ancient old lad crosses his jaw and ignores a plain snaffle but goes wonderfully in the french link with no trying to evade it.

Just because it is milder then a single jointed snaffle do not be afriad of trying it, it could be that half your problems stem from the horse not being happy in his current bit (alot dont like the single joint). you will only be able to tell when you try though.

i hate them, they dont apply poll pressure-even fitted correctly, when you pull on the reins, the cheek pieces just bow outwards and no poll pressure is applied ata ll. ive tried the french link type and waterford type. if you find yours strong in a normal snaflle, you will find it impossible in a french link version believe me!! maybe try a snaffle with a different noseband, maybe even a kineton??
