better settle yourself in with a glass (or two) of wine!!

When my old horse was on a yard I met a girl on there with a horse who was in the stable next door to mine and spent some time chatting to her. Fast forward to 10 years on, and I spotted a familiar looking yard on here and sent a message – it was her – jetset

Oddly (or maybe serendipity?!) she had a horse available for past loan. Hannah, and I decided to go and see her. I watched her ride her (once bitten, twice shy) and thought she looked lovely. I hadn’t ridden regularly for a bit and really struggled when I got on, I felt I was all over the place and couldn’t ride her effectively. However I felt she was a really good horse, and sane after some of the ones I viewed! I was concerned she was too good for me as she was working at Elementary/Medium, and I was just starting all over again
I took her on part loan and our story started

January - had total meltdown and loss of confidence for no good reason, nearly gave up, and had an instructor recommended to me. I spent about 8 weeks on the lunge and gaining some confidence back

February - off the lunge by the end of the month and I even ventured for a short hack down the lane!
it was starting to come together, very slowly and I was having lots of lessons still to keep me going

March - things were coming together now, and I was riding on my own and feeling more of a bond with her

April - I started to think about doing a dressage test after not doing one for 10 years.... so lots of practice for me - and field time for Han!

May - test time! First intro with 72.17% and a second place. I couldn't help crying and lots of polos were fed!

June - another Intro, not as good this time as I was a bit worried - 4th place with 58.36%. I had the bright idea that I could do the Blue Lights Horse of the Year show

to be continued.....

June.... I thought I had missed the entry for the Blue lights but I hadn't! I entered for the Intro and Prelim. Han got a bit tired with all the practice

July - Blue Lights show and I (amazingly) was so calm all the way there. She warmed up beautifully for me and we did both tests, with a small error in both, but I did it!

July - in for a penny and all that, I stuck myself down for another Prelim and a target of getting over 65%. I got 6th place with 66.67%

August - I joined Northern Dressage and went to my first clinic. She felt fantastic and I was so proud. Although she still thought it was all a bit tiring

September - A yard move! I went to another clinic which was good, I struggled a lot with my nerves but managed to work through it. Han was still tired...

October - I headed to the Crow Wood open day and gained lots of inspiration from Emile and Ben Hobday. Han was loving the new yard

November - I have finally got there! I had a fantastic lesson on her today and I am (just!) starting to understand her and how she works. I have felt like quitting so many times due to my horrendous confidence issues. I know now as someone put it to me "I deserve to be in that saddle, and I have bloody well earned it!)

Next on the list - a Novice test, a jump (get your You've Been Framed video ready!) and possibly BD camp....

It's taken a very special horse to get me back riding again, and to do what I said I would never do.... love a horse again after breaking my heart having mine PTS. So a thank you to jetset, SAMgirl, JeniBall, Yvonne and everyone else who has been so fantastically patient with me, and believed that I could do it
And here's to Han!

Lovely story, well done on your progress, when you look back it can seem a long time but when working through confidence issues I have found time to fly past me. :)
