I have owned Hannah for six years next week, and when I first bought her (she was my first horse) I didn't really know what I wanted to do with her
I spent the first two years trying to get her to hack out without having a complete nervous breakdown on the way out
I then started having some lessons with an eventer and found I absolutely loved the flatwork side of things and she suggested trying some dressage competitions on her. However, we had the small problem that she would not load
Four years after I bought her, I finally gave in to the fact she would never load when someone mentioned Richard Maxwell to me... I thought anything was worth a try
Richard came out, loaded her, reloaded her and she has never once refused to load, or even hesitated since that day...
So, we finally got out to our first ever dressage competition in June 2005! We did some unaffiliated competitions and qualified for the Derby House Championship in Elementary in August 2006
But, she would have been too pregnant to compete, so I handed my ticket on to the next person
She had her foal, who is an absolute cracker (although I know I am biased), weaned him at the beginning of October and was then brought back into work quite slowly due to me having Grace to compete and school too. However, when Grace became injured, someone mentioned an unaffiliated dressage competition at Myerscough and I thought, what the hell, we'll give it a go!
Hannah got 70% and 67.08% which I was thrilled with seeing as it was her first time out in 15 months
I had made a little pact with myself: if she does well, no more hesitating and making excuses that she is not ready, I will affiliate her!
So, this morning her card came through the post and stupidly I burst into tears because I never actually thought we would get around to this point
She is officially registered as Hollinhurst Rebel and I am just in the process of booking her into some competitions over the next few weeks (just Prelim until we get her muscle back on and her Troy Tummy completely gone
)
Sorry, I just wanted to share it with someone...
(I schooled her on Tuesday night, and just thought I would see whether her could remember her beginnings of half pass... remember it?! It was better than it has ever been
)
