Well, I have to admit, I had a pretty good nights sleep despite all the wind and rain that decided to unleash itself on the caravan. Although at one point I did wonder whether I was going to wake up in Oz

Sorry... back to Hannah!

There is still no foalie and she had a pretty restful night last night. I turned her out this morning, and she had a major paddy, screaming and shouting at me to come in. So I have brought her in and she is now happily munching on her haylage having not really touched her breakfast

I have been very naughty too this morning - I HAVE SQUEEZED HER UDDERS

A small amount of clear liquid came out followed by some creamy yellowish looking stuff (out of both of them). I panicked after this came out and realised that I probably should not have done that!

Everyone on the yard thinks she has just dropped her belly and her back is being pulled down, but to be honest I cannot really see that much of a difference.

Someone asked about her vulva (on another post)... She has a very elongated vulva anyway, and that started getting very slack about a week ago. It now looks fluffy and is very easily parted.

No I don't think that does mean she is running milk, but there is definitely something there for this creamy yellowish stuff. I think it is what they usually wax up with (may be well off the mark) but I do know I probably should not have done it

I still think next week... if I hadn't squeezed her boobies then the stuff would not have come out I don't think. But she definitely did not want to be out today (don't blame her in this weather).

I wanted the new foalie to be born on senza's birthday

LOL

Dont know anything about pregnant mares but i am sooo excited!! (and i have never even met either of you LOL). Think i would literally burst with excitement if she was actually mine haha.

Cant wait to see the piccies so hurray up Hannah

I agree... To be honest she is really fed up and not herself at all. She is so slow, is struggling a bit on her feet because she seems quite stiff and is generally not a happy pony.

Thanks honey... I am a bit excited, but to be honest I am more worried that something will go wrong at the moment. That is why I am so impatient for her to have it, then at least I can stop worrying and dreaming about all the labour problems I have heard about (also, someone said it could be popped out into my haybar... could you imagine

I don't think the weather is going to improve for quite some time here according to the forecast... I hate English weather, bring on global warming

Mare on our yard held on for another 3 weeks because the weather was so awful!!

I seriously think she would explode if she held on that much longer... I have never seen anything like her tummy this morning! There simply is no room left for it to get any bigger.

PMSL could you imagine if that did happen!! It would give you a fright at the time but something to look back on a laugh about in the future. I'm sure hannah is not that silly to have it in the haybar though

Dont worry everything will be fine, you said she has had a few foals before so she knows what she is doing

Have you got anything planned over the weekend like a night out etc?

Lets face it, thats when she'll start!!!
grin.gif

Right, my money is on Sunday night/early hours of Monday meaning you will have suitcases under your eyes on Monday morning and require a lot more than matches to prop your eyes open!!!

Do you work during the day? My sisters company decided to be nice and allow her holidays to "float" slightly so she could be off and spend time with them. And my boss let me have a day "paternity leave"! (out of my holidays though).

Getting very exciting though, come on Hannah, hurry up!!!! (Didn't we do this last year with Josie? PUSH!!!!)

As I said in my reply to your pm, you have not done ANY harm in testing to see if there is milk yet in her bag!!! I would NOT have suggested you do that, if it would harm her or the unborn foal!!!!!!!!!!

As for thinking that she'll wait for the weather to improve - a) Hector was born on a VERY stormy night and b) I have 4 foals hit the ground last night!!! So don't be fooled by that one!! AND, if you think she is THAT close and it is really important to you to see the foaling (which for safety's sake you should, I don't care what anyone else says), then you need to be checking on her far more regularly than every hour! Like about every 10 to 15 mins!!! I'm not joking either - I know it's difficult, when you have a day job too - I did it last year!

Thanks honey... I couldn't remember whether you had said how much I should squeeze off etc which is why I panicked!!!

i don't know how close she is... surely this creamy stuff is just the start of a very long process???

LOL - I think you should invest in a brown paper bag

Yep, it's the start of things proper - means that she actually has colostrum there now for the foal to drink when he/she is born! Getting closer!!! You really won't harm a mare by seeing if the bag contains milk or clear fluid!

Not necesarily,
We had one mare last year who bagged up really early as she is doing this year.
Then it seemed to go down so wasnt much worried.
Then with a fortnight to go overnight she went from smallish bags to having a little droplet on the end.
I then thought hang on this is quick i bet she will foal in the next 48 hrs.
By the afternoon she had milk so we were pretty sure foalie was on its way.
She foaled that night 13 days early.
Dont trust them they are all differant.
We had one pony mare foal a fortnight early with no bag but she had milk by the time foal was up and ready to suckle.

SN if we didnt have our own i would love to do what you are doing.
Although i have to say i like working with the boys as well.
