Hannah wass starting to look very restless last night and didn't really eat much of her haylage. I kept my eye on her until 4.30am and then got my head down for a few hours.

This morning, her bag was absolutely huge (no gap in between the udders at all) and she was restless again. I turned her out in the field and when I went to get her she was screaming and running around with her tail in the air... Great! When I led her out of the field she started yanking me around and jogged all the way back to her stable. She seemed very stressed out when I put her in and she kept tensing her tummy.

I have left her eating her breakfast, and will nip back in a couple of hours to check on her.

Her vulva was very puffy this morning and no wrinkles in it whatsoever. She was also leaving it sort of with a gap in it when I brought her in from the field.

sounds to me like you have a foalie on the way!

You see because of her stressing out in the field, it has put it in my mind that it will be a bit longer yet... I hope for her sake it is not because she is so uncomfortable, her stomach is so dropped (nearly by her knees), she is stiff in the morning and her bag and udders must be killing her.

My friend thinks sometime this week...

Are you sure she wasnt stressing in the field, because she knows its nearly time and wants to be in?
Id be very watchful for the next 24 hours with those kind of signs!
Come on Hanna, the text chain is ready, now have a healthy baby!!

I'd say the same as KT. I reckon she's stressing coz she want to keep herslef in and safe for little Hannah to make an apperance.

Sorry she's still stressing you out but in the song by The Beatles - it won't be long, yeh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you can just give her some peace and quiet, she might just get on with it. That's not a dig at you Becki, just stating a fact that mares tend to get on with things when they're ready but they will wait for things to be quiet and calm. Mine get used to me standing for ages at the side of their boxes just watching them, not speaking or moving so they almost forget I'm there; it's all the coming and going they don't seem to like so wrap up warm enough that you can rout yourself to the spot for an hour or so at a time!

That's really interesting... Because I would think she would be much calmer when she is getting ready to foal, as opposed to cantering on the spot and spinning around when I am trying to close the gate. She turned into 'old' Hannah, the one before I put her in foal.

Pat, she doesn't know I am watching her all night... I have a CCTV camera in her stable and the monitor in my caravan so I can keep checking on her without disturbing her. I usually only actually see her when I get there at night as she hears my car (at 9pm) and then go in the caravan.

That is why I bought the CCTV thing: one because I didn't want to disturb her, and two so I didn't have to keep leaving my nice warm caravan

3 broodmares I know, one I work with at present, have foaled in the middle of a thunder storm! All were galloping about during the days before foaling too.

I too would be thinking that she is wanting to be in safe and sound ready to have her baby!

I am not sure if you have any children but I remember that really agitated feeling you get as you start to go into labour. Not quite sure where you want to be sort of thing.

I would be watching VERY closely now.......how can you bear to be away for TWO HOURS!

Ah yes, but I am feeling psychic (sp) today!

I just wish there was a way of xraying or scanning them to see what is going on in there...

I am umming and ahhing about whether to stay at home tonight and get a good night's sleep ready for next week's vigil.

I agree that she is probably stressing whilst in the field because she wants to be in the stable all nice warm and secure for when the foalie arrives.
I have a feeling it will be tonight, or no later than tomorrow.
I certainly hope she has her foal soon, she will feel much better bless her.
Common girl almost there!

Thanks... she is not happy at the moment, and is very uncomfortable. I know they can go a month over, but I think much longer and she is going to really struggle.

Today please Hannah! Before midnight.... it's my birthday today

If her boobies are looking like one big one (no crease) then I would say she is almost there..... You might find her wax up or run milk sometime today

Keep in there Becki - won't be long now (for the sake of a good nights sleep for you!).

Thanks Chambon... There was no crease between the two when I looked from behind, and right at the back there was a large lump as if the skin has been pushed out. There is also a lot of swelling in front of the udders, but the liquid coming out is still like a golden colour (comes out quite a lot when you touch her udders).
