She is back in the good books today after a horrible week with her!

I had a play with all the bits and tried her in the drop. I fitted it correctly but because she mouths up so much (really over the top) it rubbed all the side of her mouth raw
frown.gif
It was also compressing her very fleshy lips too much so there were some rubs in her mouth on Wednesday afternoon, and feeling a very bad Mummy I asked an AI to have a look and she said the drop just squashed her ample lips far too much!

So, I gave her Thursday off and gently rode her on Friday afternoon with the Sprenger back in, and just a cavesson
smile.gif
She settled very quickly, and yes she did play about trying to get her tongue over the bit so I just put it up one hole and she was much more consistent in her contact.

I didn't think we would be going this morning when I got up because it had snowed and was frozen. But, I went to the yard as if I was doing just in case

I phoned the organiser and she said it was going ahead, so Han was loaded up and off we went... it started belting down with snow as we left the lane

We got to the venue and Hannah had not even broken one bead of sweat (usually she is dripping in sweat) so it looks as though she has voted with her feet and prefers travelling in Doris
wink.gif
I checked times, got changed, tacked her up (with just the cavesson) and had about 15 mins to warm up because the traffic had been a bit slow due to the weather.

She warmed up really nicely... no faffing about in her mouth and she was working with me rather than against me. We went in and I felt she did a lovely test (N25), just needs to work on her medium work as she is still a bit stilted in it and won't stretch when she is out competing as much as she does at home. I have two lessons this coming week, so hoping to get some tips
smile.gif
She came 4th with 66% which I was over the moon with because she got almost 10% less last week
blush.gif

I untacked her, put her back in the box and she stood perfectly for an hour... she never usually eats her net, but today she completely finished it so I had to go and borrow some haylage for her homeward journey
blush.gif

I tacked her up for the second test (N28) and I overcooked her a little in the warm up by doing too long as she felt tired and a little flat going into the arena
frown.gif
But, she still worked with me and only at the end did she start playing a bit with the bit which I am putting down to having done enough. She still achieved 61.67% even feeling as flat as she did.

So when we have our medium work better in a competitive atmosphere, hopefully she will start getting some higher results
smile.gif

But, she has come away with 5 BD points to her name now

Sorry it is so long... a Seabreeze cocktail to all who have got this far!!!

Thanks MH - you may treat yourself to a nice Seabreeze now

I did feel she was settled in her mouth, but with hannah nothing is certain
wink.gif
However, even if I have to put a loose flash on, I now have other things to try as have gone right back to bare minimum.

I couldn't get hold of the venue so assumed it was off as the weather was so bad at 8am this morning. Eventually got hold of someone at 8.15 and we had to leave immediately really to get there with the weather
smile.gif

I am pleased with her today... she came out and she actually worked. But she is so very complicated. A train came flying past and she didn't bat an eyelid, but one of the liveries led her horse across a field and Hannah lept off all four feet and did a baby buck

My husband was killing himself laughing.

I feel a lot more confident driving Doris now I have some journeys under my belt... I think ours little crunch made me a little more cautious and also more determined to not allow other road users to push me

Blooming well done!!!!!! Weather is pants at the moment, although we have not had a covering.....yet!!!!!!!! It will be trial and error with her bitting......keep up the good work ..working in is also trial and error...depends on the day I find!!!!!!!!!.....I wish I had a Doris to drive!!!!!!!!

Hurrah great result, and bet you are relieved to be getting somewhere with the bitting issue after her trying your patience so much in the week
grin.gif

Lesson cancelled today because of snow so undecided about whether to put entries in for croft top next week or not ......

It has been so long since I worked Han in before last week that it will take me a while to get used to her again in that situation. I know what Grace needs, although by the time she is back out competing I will have completely forgotten

I absolutely love having Doris... I had nearly 2 hours between classes and it was so lovely being able to have a cup of tea sat watching TV with the heating on

Does this mean I have my qualification for Area Festivals with these two results????

[/ QUOTE ]

I think, and I may be wrong, but I think you are part qualified as I think you need over 62% now?

If you are getting 66% though, it will only be another outing to get it!

Well done for today Becki!

Did you plait in the end?

blush.gif
No, I didn't plait... by the time I decided to go (it was quite thick snow at the yard) we literally had to chuck her in and go
smile.gif
I hadn't even given her a brush...

Delighted she decided to play ball today after all your bitting tribulations. I'm a happy mouth and cavesson person myself, so nice to see that H is appreciating the 'less is more' approach!!

Well done for the points as well!
